Has anyone else had lighting issues with this stove? Mine does not want to bloom and ignite the jets. I have several alcohol stoves and none with these difficulties. Even full of fuel, the jets ignite and go out immediately.

mindprofessorI watched Hiram Cook's unboxing and initial lighting test, and he had the same problem.

mindprofessorThe trick with Vargo stoves is that you need to fill them completely, have a good wind screen to reflect the heat back onto the stove and in the case of this one and the Triad, you can put the pot on right away which also reflects heat back to improve the priming time. The other thing i noticed with all alcohol stoves is that they improve with use. Even the home made ones work better after the first couple of burns. It cleans the junk out of them. Light a bottle cap with a few drops of alcohol underneath and it will fire fast.

mindprofessorA bottle cap with a few (5?) drops of fuel under it when inside the Hexagon stove will have it blazing within 30 seconds.

flippantMy intent in buying this would be to primarily use the alcohol stove with wood as screen/backup. Is it worth buying both or should I just buy the wood stove and use a trangia? Been a canister stove man and looking to switch.

AY1286Hey flippant I'm in the same quandary about alcohol/alternative fuel stoves as I'm still using canister stoves....I have a titanium pot(new/unused) which I believe would work I'm just not sure I'll save weight as opposed to my jet boil(12 years old)it sure is convenient to use but this has the option to use wood/alcohol/solid which on long hikes would be a great option.....I'm normally out about 10 days so the canister lasts...still on the fence
