Seriously? Needs 8 stakes but only comes with 4? Way to cheap out! But like the color, dimensions & being able to access the vents from inside with the zipper.

rumblechickTake a look at the Vargo website, where there is a video of Brian Vargo demonstrating this tent. He does, in fact, set it up with four tent stakes. He does not put them in at the corners by the pole ends, but rather at the four low guy points on the fly. Those points line up with the center of each of the four sides. It's an interesting idea and I'm curious about real-world results in adverse weather. As an aside, often I use different stakes than the ones that come with a tent anyway. It depends on the conditions I expect. https://www.vargooutdoors.com/no-fly-2p-tent.html

rumblechickWhat makes you think it needs 8 stakes? You use your current 2p on Everest or something?

scopeIt's been 7 weeks since I made the comment, but I think it was because watching a set up video or a youtube review it was stated it needed 8 stakes.

rumblechickUnderstood you saw a video that incorrectly indicated 8 stakes were needed. Lots of noobs out there putting out review videos for equipment they haven't used yet, and that should only have made you ask a question about the number of stakes instead of duplicating that bad info. Its clear to me that 4 stakes are needed, as opposed to the 2 that are needed with my quite ordinary 2p tent of similar shape. Its also clear that anyone thinking 8 stakes are needed hasn't put much thought into it. I could probably use 12 stakes with my 2p tent, but why? Unless, of course, I'm in an open, windy location. I practice site selection so that I carry less, and a sub-3lb tent is made for folks who make similar choices. There's no reason to buy this tent like this when you can spend half as much and get better durability for those types of situations if you think you will be in them or just want to be prepared for being in those conditions. Lot of the stuff sold here is technical in application and I wish more folks here would ask questions instead of just jumping on what they immediately see as a flaw in design.

scopeWell bully for you! LOL It still looks to me like if you stake out the 4 corners AND the two vestibules you will want 6 stakes minimum. But silly me thinking that just because I'm not on top of Mt Everest wind and rain conditions couldn't possibly require a full and secure staking out. And it NEVER happens that one retires for the night and a storm blows in during the night. Thanks but I'd rather continue sleeping on without having to get up and add a few more stakes to ensure my tent doesn't collapse onto my head. Technical equipment or not, I expect to be able to open a product and use it, not have to add things before I do the minimum use, If I wanted that I'd just buy a tarp and add what I felt I needed to do more than stand with it over my head and wear it like a poncho! Never the less, next time I dare to question why a tent of this price doesn't include what's truly needed, I'll be sure to word it in such a way as to earn your approval. And it was just a question, not an accusation or insult to the product.

rumblechickI'm not going to stir this conversation to a higher temper than it is already heading. But I AM going to point out my original response to you seven weeks ago in which I referred you to Brian Vargo's own set-up video for this tent, in which he very clearly does not use corner stakes at all. Stakes are used only one in the middle of each of the four sides. Since it is his product, it seems just as clear to me that is his intent for it. Now, could I ask that tempers be reeled in?

rumblechickSorry to raise such ire, especially such an old post, but it really wasn't meant for just you. Rather, it was meant to point out to newer onlookers that the number of stakes it came with was not a flaw. And it was meant for those who might post, as you did, incorrect info that you only suppose to be true, but actually is not due to the product being more technical in nature. You don't have to add anything for minimum use - sorry you feel that way, but its completely incorrect. Just pointing that out.

rumblechickThe point is you dont know what's needed, and instead of considering yourself expert enough to spew opinions after watching 1 youtube video maybe you should have some humility? None of the product videos or pictures show more then 4 stakes used. So, either this small business is risking their reputation over a handful of stakes, or they are simply not needed for the designed use of this tent.
