I got one from the last drop. I have the same gritty, wanting to freeze up feeling when screwing the lid on or off. I've been hoping it would get better, perhaps in time it will.
I try to make sure I sit the lid on it squarely, then instead of immediately starting to screw away, I push it on a little more, make sure it's still and then screw it down. That seems to work well enough, at least in favorable conditions.
While screwing it off I try to grasp it only/mostly by the bottom, sorta cupping it gently without squeezing any more that I have to. That seems to help. I haven't had to beat it off with a rock yet but under less favorable conditions I can almost picture that happening.
I don't have a 1 liter titanium BOT but I do have a 1 liter stainless BOT. The stainless lid from the stainless BOT works fine on both the stainless BOT and the 700mL titanium BOT. The titanium lid from the 700mL BOT is gritty and contrary on both the stainless BOT and the titanium BOT. So, at least in my case, the weak culprit seems to be the lid. I "suspect" it work better if the lid threads were polished better but I don't really know.
"If" I were lucky enough to get to go packing tomorrow, I'd probably be tempted to take the 700mL titanium BOT, which I love, but with the stainless lid. It screws on and off nicely and isn't enough heavier enough to bother me.
That said, I still like it, even with the gritty lid, and would buy another if it were in the finances.
