Ok guys, don’t want to bust your bubbles but I’m going to. Right now, REI has the Snow Peak Solo cookset with both a 1.1 liter pot and 16oz mug for $75.99 with currently 20% discount for members. Both have handles and the lid has silicone grip. Total for both is about 5.5oz , or about I believe. Massdrop has many good drops but I wil not be joining this one.

DannyMilksDon’t think so, isn’t this the Vargo 700ml/1lit Bot drop?

veronajackNo one else makes a pot design like the Vargo Bot. Perhaps you are not familiar with the Bot. There are tons of options if you wanna go with a traditional pot.

veronajackYeah, even though the capacity is the same as the Snow Peak, the Vargo BOT is unique for having the sealing lid. This means you can put uncooked food and water into it while hiking, and then some time later you're meal will be edible - no cooking necessary! Also, you can store food in it for later consumption. And finally it can be used as a water container, since it seals, thereby potentially replacing a water bottle. Hope that helps!
And that snowpeak setup you referenced is pretty sweet and I think we have it on our site from time to time too. Highly recommended, though serving a different purpose.

DannyMilksDon’t see paying almost $100 for a titanium pot and water bottle, however to each his own, but it definitely not for me. I can already do the things you are talking about with the kit I have. Best wishes!

veronajackI thought the same as you. I have too much other higher priority gear to buy right now, but will probably eventually try this. For me, I carry two Smart Water bottles on my front for easy drinking water. I also carry a 32 ounce Naglene as cooking water or extra drinking water and of course I have a cookpot. If I had this, I could eliminate my Nalgene. That saves weight and would be one less item to pack.

veronajackWhy do you think anyone cares whether it's for you or not? If it's not, just move on.

GutpileNo and I don’t care what you think either. However, this is a Discussion forum, and everyone should be able to express opinions. Just because I go against the flow, should not ruffle everyone’s feathers. It’s pretty clear from what I read that many long-time members assume Massdrop is the best source-it isn’t for many things . This is a community, and we should look out for each other-that also means identifying better sources for members of the community of the things they want to purchase. Whtats wrong with that?

DannyMilksHow would you compare the Bot to the Keith Titanium Multi-functional Cooker that MD recently ran a drop on for about $10 less? A few things I notice: The Cooker comes with an extra nesting vessel. Instead of threads, the lid appears to clamp down, but guess it doesn't seal given the small steam release hole. It would be good if they had a silicone plug that could be inserted into the hole, so that the container could be carried with water in it. Perhaps something could be found to fit . . . .

veronajackI think you're missing the point -this is awesome for hiking "while" cold soaking your next meal. You can only do that with a lid that seals. Now add in the bonus factor that you can also boil something in the same pot and now you have something no one else has. Previously most hikers have been using Ziplock twist containers for cold soaking, but because they are plastic you can not cook in them.

inventboti have both the keith and both bots. to be honest the only one i use regularly is the 1l bot. the handles on the 700 may be great when backpacking but in most cases using the 1l to transport and heat and eat stew for lunch at work the handles would be unnecessary. i tried doing rice in all of them, the keith makes a mess if you dont rinse the living crap out of the rice, the starch will burn anywhere it is deposited on the side of the pot where water isnt touching. also pre soaking the rice in the bot makes cook time much quicker though you have to use a spread flame and plenty of space between the flame and bot. my current plans are going to include using bot to presoak and using flame-less heaters to heat the bot. i dont ever carry water, but instead rely on the fact that washington forests are chock full of streams, so the heaters seem to be a good lightweight option.

z80cowboyWould it be fair to say that you would still prefer the 700mL bot for backpacking and the 1L bot for work?

W8lkinUSAThe 700 never gets used now. Idk i love the size of the 700 but hate the handles. If there was an easy clean way to remove them i would. In all likelyhood ill end up using just the liter bot for backpacking, just tonhave the extra room...

z80cowboyWhile I prefer the reduced volume of the 700mL bot, I might also like it without handles.

W8lkinUSACurrently am looking for a cozy for 1l bot. I may end up sewing my own.give it an interior pocket for heater and insulate the outside of it, kinda thing.

z80cowboyI've purchased both 1L and 700mL bots and have just received them. I have use for both bots outside of camping, so I now have options when backpacking.
Vargo already makes a koozy for the 1L bot, but if won't retain heat. I'd be more interested in a reflectix cozy to retain heat.
