Honestly I think I would choose this over the Thor 4 that is out right now.... I don’t see constant griping about quality control and this is just so much more unique.... idk this just seems a lot more interesting, m390 steel is about the only thing that the Thor 4 has over this imo
I don't have to worry about keeping things THIS small to be legal carry around here (and in NY there's no differentiation between open and concealed carry for knives)
I just enjoy the smaller ones because I honestly very rarely have a need for anything big, and smaller is easier to carry, and people don't get nervous if you use it in public
I'm not familiar with that spyderco, but for small, fancy, high quality, and very useful I like my Bestech Goblin, and the Raidops Blue Shark (if I can get this detent dialed in a bit better)
Edit: just looked it up, that Vrango is a pretty cool looking little knife
Actually I had one from the last drop, and I really like it, it's really well made, far better than my very expensive Fallkniven knifes, and the size, yes it's small, but for me at least that is plus not a problem because I can carry that in my pocket or throw it out to my backpack with confidence and it's very lightweight and incredibly sturdy and elegant.
Regarding to the blade, it's really different from everything I use to have, and I kind of like it, the opening is very smooth and fast. I will no consider that knife Vintage in any way, it's more like futuristic, but as I say I like the color, the titanium frame, the steel of the blade and the opening mechanism, I will really like a better price, but I think the materials and design worth the price.
$200 for a knife that has such a small blade is just insane to me. There are so many knives out there in this price range that are a lot better and way more substantial. There are also a ton of knives that are a lot cheaper and still way more substantial than this one.
Anyone else notice that the main picture appears to actually be a mirrored image of the back side of the knife?
Detail pics show:
-face side showing blade grind and no clip, logo on pivot screw, torx screw by butt end.
-back side has clip, torx at pivot, logo at butt end, flat blade
Main pic shows:
-everything bass ackwards lol
And just to make sure we're REALLY confused, pic 7 shows a chamfer at the spine on the back side of the blade that doesn't exist in any other picture lol
I liked their other version better, but still feel it should be about half this price, at most
NotsurewhyibotherAgreed on probably both lol
I still kinda want one, but at this point not without seeing in person, and still at nowhere near this price
There's been a few pricey, small, chisel ground tanto blades on massdrop recently. I don't really see the point of buying something like this when you can get a larger, much more practical knife made of better materials and for less money.
@bookworm13 Hey guys, how's it going? Sorry I just read your replies today. I'm trying to reduce my purchasing here, and it's hard because I have been using this site basically from when they first started and there's good discussion as well as a place to discover new brands and stuff I like. This site is pretty tapped in to my mindset. I used to have serious doubts when people posted about poor experiences with Massdrop since I was pretty loyal to it, but I recently had one of my own.
Not too long before I posted in this thread I had a very lacking customer service experience, and because I have a hard time not buying things when I see them here, I have been reducing my visits to the site. I just popped in today to see if my Massdrop X Bob Terzuola (that I ordered long before my bad CS experience) shipped out yet.
As far as these Chinese knives like CH and the Eafengrow (who I believe is a middleman, not really a brand in the sense we are used to) knives. I have a few now, and I have had a few more over the years. I would suggest FastTech as a good place to buy the lower end ones (Here's a link for their Eafengrow ones https://www.fasttech.com/category/1901/knives-for-outdoor-survival?sort=r&keywords=EF). For the higher end "Replicas" and Chinese customs I have had good experiences dealing with JUFULE https://www.aliexpress.com/store/1502428?spm=2114.12010608.0.0.75e35bd4HKfBrj .
If you search jufule or kevinjohn on Aliexpress you will see many sellers selling what seem to be the same product at varying prices, but I have ordered them from multiple sellers and found the quality varies between them. That particular seller (JUFULE Knife Tools Store) has prices slightly higher but seems to have a much more consistent quality.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I take their steel claims with a grain of salt. I am pretty sure that most of the ones that claim D2 are likely D2 since its pretty common and cheap in China now. I imagine that the high end originals are likely the steel they claim to be as well. If I see some knock off of a knife that is originally m390 or something for under $100 or so, I am almost its probably D2 as well.
FuctFaceTotally understand - before finding Massdrop I only bought a knife every couple of years or so.
Now I have the Boker Chap Knife, Steel Will C22M , EF227, Tangram Azo Amarillo and Izula knockoff sitting on my desk, all within a few months. I also have a couple of cheap Kubeys on the way since they seem to have a sale on. It's hard to choose what to carry now.
I'll check out the sites you mentioned (I got the EF227 and fake Izula from Aliexpress) but I need another knife like I need a hole in my head (more like a hole in my wallet). Thanks for the tips and info.
