I already posted this but I guess no one saw it because people are still asking. You CAN reprogram this using the interception api (http://www.oblita.com/interception.html). Someone made an easy wrapper for it that is impossible to mess up here (http://orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=30829). I also posted the ini I used for the wrapper that changes all the keys to F13-24 (http://pastebin.com/4vRj89X2). You may have to change the device HID though, I haven't tested it on another computer.

CirqueThanks for posting this! This is going to be really helpful when mine comes in, but I wanted to ask if it would be possible to make layers using this method? As in the top row are my layer keys and pressing one of them would switch the rest of the keys to be something else

HeyZeusI'm not 100% sure. I'll test it later. The only way I can think would be to have the two key presses activate it.

CirqueWow. That REALLY needs to be an officially listed, hosted, and supported feature. Reprogrammability makes all the difference between this being a lame panel "you can use as a functional external number row with 0-9, Backspace and Enter." Ya, no. Or something I actually want.

CirqueIntercepting and modifying input isn't the same as reprogramming the keyboard. I really wish i had looked into this before I bought this. Now I want to get rid of it. Anyone want to buy a barely used VA12M?

CirqueThere is a way to actually reprogram it, but it does come with some significant caveats. See the post I just make up top.
