Would be nice to hear back from MD in regards to some questions,
1. Does the back-light have a toggle? timed? permanently on?
2. Battery type / battery life
3. Can we use a wired connection vs the Bluetooth connection?
4. Any correct pictures to show the actual options we are given with?
5. Linux compatibility?
6. Someone mentioned a typing bug which effects this model (any information on this?)
ZaczacThey have already answered two of those questions. Officially, he said he couldn't get it working over USB, but you can use it concurrently over Bluetooth while it is charging.
He also already posted pictures in the comments and a few others linked some pictures as well.
ZaczacSo I was tired of waiting for MD to reply to you and having the same questions, I looked up a Chinese review site, which had a review of this keyboard. I was able to read the Chinese but Google translate gives you the general gist of the article.

So to your questions,
(all answers are sourced from article, I make no claims to whether they are true or not)
1. The LED turns off after 5 min.
2. 600 hours without using backlighting
3. No wired connection available. The author states that he tried repeatedly and that allegedly, Varmilo will release a dual wired and Bluetooth keyboard next year.

MartyParkWe were waiting on more information from the vendor before we could post some answers. All answers given by @H2O2 are correct.
With respect to Linux compatibility and the typing bug, we'll have to get back to you after talking to the vendor again.
Regarding the options available during checkout, the Grey keycaps and the Black case are as pictured in this drop. For the White case and White keycaps, some pictures have already been posted in this discussion thread.
If you'd like to take a look at how the White case and the White keycaps look please take a look at this drop https://www.massdrop.com/buy/varmilo-va87mr. The caveat is that the drop linked has orange LEDs and the only LED option available for this drop is white.
Please reply to this message as and when any other questions arise, and I'll try to respond to them promptly.
Thanks a lot guys!
Edit: I forgot to mention that the vendor has asked us to limit the drop to 150 units. I've updated the "Description" page as well.
kunalkumarI would absolutely buy this keyboard in white if the only option for backlighting weren't white as well. It was a really strange choice on the part of the vendor, I think. Even from a practical non-aesthetic standpoint, white backlighting for white keys sounds pointlessly blinding. Gray with white backlighting, I can understand.
Any chance you'll be offering this with blue, teal, orange, green or even purple LEDs in the very near future?
VarholiaglimpWhite leds do have the benefit of working best with color changers. If your caps are really thick (I don't think Varmilo stock caps are) those may not work though.
ajsalminenThe problem (or benefit) with Gateron switches are that they are clear so the LED is embedded underneath the switch. Light diffuses through the clear casing. If you look at any of the images with backlight on, you can see there is no visible LED poking through. So any color changers will have to completely encapsulate the switch for full color changing to work.
H2O2It sounds as if you're saying that selecting the original Cherry MX switches shouldn't be a problem, and that choosing any kind of Gateron switch (brown, clear, etc.) will involve dealing with clear cases. If so, I won't consider the Gateron browns and would choose the next best Cherry MX action in terms of a timing/gaming compromise. Blue might prove a Hank noisy when my grillfiend is sleeping. Red seems to be a gamer's choice but might be better than the blue in other ways.
Gateron browns and clears might be the best choices if not for the LED problem you mentioned.
It also sounds as if LED light might bleed less with Gateron switches. That sounds like a good feature if you've got the color you want.
