3rd day, 3rd time asking this question... What is the deal with the Cherry MX Red switch option on the checkout page? It is listed, but not selectable. Is anyone there?
KcHmonIt seems no one is listening... I asked the same question and got nothing. I had to cancel my drop because I really didn't want MX blacks. Also, running Linux is kinda risky with all the "maybe it might work with Bluetooth."
Anyways, I'm waiting for the V87M to come back, I'm more hopeful reds will be available on that drop.
klgsas far as the cherry Reds I think Cherry stopped making them as they started switching over to their new silent designs so it was available on the first drop but on the second drop what you are asking about also happened. they were just out. no one updated the selection to remove the option from the list. gaterons have about the same feel color for color except for clears which feel more like lighter reds.
For the Bluetooth only people with problems are macs as apple has a problem with non proprietary hardware in general and windows 7 because the stack is just not in the OS so you need to download special drivers. Linux should be easy to add the stack as long as you have a compatible card/dongle that is at 4.0 or higher (yes there is 4.2 now) .
the keycaps in the pic can be bought in a separate drop when it comes back. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/varmilo-front-printed-keycaps
it also has colors like red, rose, yellow, blue and a bunch of others.
AntonyFaragHey Antony, just wanna say you've been a great help on this discussion forum. Leaving a message to show my appreciation for your informative replies! Cheers!
AntonyFaragActually, the problem with my keyboard turned out to be that it was defective and not that it refused to play nice with Macs. My replacement Varmilo works perfectly with my MBP; not so my Windows 7 laptop. Also, no one has reported issues with iPads, so the issue seems to affect OSX but not iOS -- it's not an Apple exclusionary thing. Similarly, Android devices and Windows tablets aren't affected but Windows 7 users are. You've been right about a lot of things, but the issue with Macs seems to be more complex than your diagnosis implies. Tablets and mobile devices generally seem always to work.
Varholiaglimpyes it is more complex I just broke it down to the simplest thing because to go into the long explanation especially when I have no experience with macs and would be talking out my arse would not be helpful. so I just broke it down to the base factor of it being a mac thing.
AntonyFaragThanks! The only explanation with OS X is they must have some kernel driver signing subsystem that prevents any hardware manufacture to build kext / userspace applications for their products. OSS FTW!
