I have had these boots on my radar for awhile, and $125.00 is right around the best price that I have seem for awhile.
Most sites like REI, and others like Amazon have them at around $199.00 in my size.
So even with the dreaded Massdrop shipping included, the price is still a little bit lower than Backcountry's current price of around $139.00.
I wore the Vasque Zephyr GTX boots for many years, but the last pair that I wore did not seem to last as long as the others, and literally "de-soled" or perhaps delaminated as I reached the end of a long trail that I was on, (perfect timing), so I was able to limp back to my vehicle while my delaminated sole clapped against the ground.
I remember that Vasque used to be made in the USA, and Italy, if memory serves, then the manufacturing went , were else, China!
Anyway, I digress...
By the way...these Vasque St. Elias boots are heavy, but have consistently received good reviews from the guys at the Outdoor Gear Lab.
You can see the list of over priced hiking boots that they reviewed here:
https://www.outdoorgearlab.com/reviews/shoes-and-boots/hiking-boots/vasque-st-elias-gtx
However, the Vasque boots are not their highest rated pick, and at the top of my list is the Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX boots, (also heavy), and perhaps the Hoka One One Tor Ultra Hi WP, which are very light!
Still, you probably won't go wrong with any of these boots, and Vasque does offer wide sizes too, just don't like the prices, but again the $100 to $125 range seems fair, and somewhat palatable.
I do however have one thing that makes me cautious about purchasing boots or shoes on Massdrop, and that is the fear of purchasing the boot, and then finding out that it does not fit correctly.
Massdrop has a thirty day return policy, but here is the specific wording of that policy... "We only offer returns for items that arrive damaged, defective, not as advertised, or missing components. When drops are completed, we submit the group's order to the vendor up front. This is how we’re able to deliver the best value to our members and is also why all sales are final. In the event that a product arrives damaged, defective, not as advertised, or missing components, please contact Massdrop Support and we’ll assist you."
There is nothing about sizing in that policy, and all sales are final, so I am unsure about purchasing, and having an issue, as anytime that I have purchased sneakers, or shoes online, I have undoubtedly had to return them.
Vasque's return policy only seems to apply if you purchased from Vasque directly, and they state that you must return to the authorized dealer where you purchased the boots, if you did not purchase directly from them. https://www.vasque.com/USD/page/returns-policy
Unless I am missing something, I think that Massdrop should clarify the return policy on the drop page, especially for shoes and boots.
