I have a few decent headphones (hd6xx,hd558,ath -m50x,edc,,mee p2)and although I can't say I know how to analyze headphone sound, these do not make me immediately seek for better headphones (which has happened often with other earbuds) I don't know anything about durability so I ordered a few more

I kind of hesitated when I saw those 1 or 2-star reviews but now I am glad I decided to give those a try.  Build quality is decent. The driver shells are made with plain hard plastic, but the fit and finish are good, no rough edges. There's nothing much to talk about here. Sound wise, the bass is a bit lacking and does not go very deep but is fast and has decent quality. Using the foam pads is the key to get more bass from these kinds of earbuds. Mids, in general, is present and clear but feels a bit lacking in the lower-mids which makes the overall sound on the thin side. Highs are very good, provide excellent details and brightness without being piercing in most cases. The sound also feels very spacious and has good separation of instruments.  To my ears, they are fantastic, as long as you understand those are earbuds, not IEMs or headphones. Earbuds now have become a niche, of course, you won't get the same level of bass, sound isolation, or in-ear fit of the IEMs from those, but if you grew up in the era which earbuds were still the mainstream of the market, you'd probably appreciate those a little bit more. Hey, they are just $5.

Decent enough considering they were so cheap. The earbuds fell apart after a couple of months, but I just had to push them back together and it was fine.

Honestly, great purchase since my last pair of earbuds died. Cheap and I don't care if they break.

They're worth $10 but sell at $5!

Way overhyped. Nothing special, marginally better than similarly priced options one can buy from a store. I recommend you spend an extra $10-$15 for a large increase in sound quality.

Funny how none of these naysayers can ever give an actual recommendation.

These have no business being this good for this price

Great sound quality, but do not fit my ears at all.

Great ear buds with very good detailed sound. Hard to beat at this price and what a surprise!

I got the standard version for $5. For the price? Incredible. I only use these as backup earbuds for my MacBook and my iPhone X, and tossing price aside I'll mention some things I noticed with these. Volume isn't super loud from my phone when at max volume, which I'm okay with since I prefer listening to quieter music, but these earbuds aren't meant to cancel out ambient noise so they aren't ideal in busy or loud environments. I do notice some cable noise. Opting for the braided cable may fix this, and I still think they would be worth the extra $15. Comfort wise, I find them incredibly comfortable. The right and left indicators are a bit hard to see, so I color coded the earbuds with the included red and blue covers. Final side note, mine seemed like they were fresh off the assembly line because the black coating/paint got on my fingers as soon as I opened the package. Didn't affect the look of the headphones, but my hands got dirty. Be prepared to wipe down these with a cloth or wet-wipe.

I got the Android version. They are very comfortable and sound pretty good but I use them mostly for listening to comedy talk shows (Stern, Bubba, Gilbert). The cable is a little stiff and the up/down buttons don't adjust the volume but the inline microphone works well. Great for the price.

Pretty damn good for the price. I use them as a backup pair!

I don’t understand the bad reviews at all. These have astonishingly good sound for the price. They greatly exceeded my expectations. I’ll be ordering more for cheap backups.

I love these little buds. Sound quality is simply amazing for the price. Great for phone calls too. I keep buying extras to make sure I always have a pair. Although do far, they also seem likely to be quite a durable product not likely to break frequently like u might expect a $5 item to do! You can’t go wrong with these earphones. Buy a bunch of them.

Look great, sound great, packaging is cute, price was fantastic. they're comfortable, don't tangle as badly as other earbuds, and are now my favorite earbuds for calls, working out, or just avoiding conversation.

I first bought VE Monks about a year ago. I use these regularly, and I try to keep a few pair around for gifts to friends and family. It was nice to order through Massdrop instead of waiting for delivery from China.

I find the sound of the VE Monks are better compared to my MassDrop NuForce EDC 3. They are louder and offer a greater soundstage compared the the NuForce which is $60. Build quality is not great for the VE Monks but it is the price you pay. Overall very impressed with the sound quality.

I bought the Monks just because I had $10 balance in my Paypal account. I never heard of the Monks before and had zero expectation of them sounding even decent. Once I received them I plugged them to my Samsung Galaxy S9+ and was pleasantly surprised. The sound came out as open and airy with very soft highs and great mids. The bass sounded a bit recessed but not to offset the overall sound presentation. After listening to a few songs I was certain that these are something special and needs some better treatment. I fired up Tidal plus via Audirvana + on my MacBook and plugged them to my Chord Mojo headamp. What I heard was pure joy to my ears (honey to my ears). One after the other I went through almost my whole playlist, and mind you without skipping a single song! The mojo brought out more detailed and controlled sound from these. There was an ear to ear grin on my face throughout. These had no business sounding so good for less than $5! I immediately ordered two more pairs. Now I have three pairs tuned differently. I stuffed some cotton in the earbuds and now the slight midbass hump is gone and they sound a little bit more deep and the mids are cleaner. I also attached the wing type hook to these and now they are more stable! I upgraded cable on one of these as well. Is it blasphemous to say that I enjoy the sound from these even more than my $700 Focal Elex! Don't think twice but get these right away and thank me later.

Hi. I'm wondering where'd you get the accessories for the VE Monks like the Ear wing. Thanks.

These are my go to earphones for small chamber ensemble and full orchestral music. Mids are very dense and warm sounding. Fantastic for music with a wide dynamic range. Something about the imaging and way the mid bass blooms that reminds me of listening to live performances in small recital halls and the sound of a full orchestra/band from the podium. This very unique listening position implies that the soundstage is not massive but it is an interesting perspective. Listening to music that isn't overly compressed and doesn't rely on sub bass is also very enjoyable. There are much better earphones for this type of music. Wouldn't say "don't bother," but don't judge them solely on how they perform with these tracks. Lastly, spoken word sounds amazing. I have a pair just for listening to podcasts before bed. Which leads me to the one negative...I purchased the three button Android set to listen to music and control my playlists in the dark. The buttons didn't work with my HTC U11. Not a deal breaker but I did pay $10 for that set.

I've been using the monk+ for a couple years now. I remember when I first got them I thought they sounded great, especially using the bass boost on my Fiio A3 amp. After getting the VE Zen 2.0, dt770, and 58X, P2, Porta Pro's, mulitple chi-fi iems etc., my monks fell to the wayside, and who could blame me I had apparently much better options available to me? Well, I came back to my monks a few months back and I can't put them down. I find myself choosing the monks over all my other options and I don't know why. I just love the way they present my music. I know they're not supposed to be able to touch my other options because they are technically worse on almost every level, but I like listening to music on my monks more. I pair them with Tidal HiFi and a Zorloo ZuperDac-S on the go and a Schitt Stack(fulla 2 dac into magni 3) at home. There's gotta be something wrong with me haha. Does anyone else love their monks more than maybe they should??

great sound

Great sound for the price they can be a bit uncomfortable, I tried them and they're too big for my ears and I could fee the seams in the plastic. My wife doesn't seem to mind them whatsoever. She loves them and said they're the best cheap buds she's had. She kills a pair a moth so this was the best compromise for good sound at a price that I can buy four at t time!

I thought it was a joke but its not these are definitely amazing for their price and then some. You really lose nothing by giving them a try.
Verified Purchaser
Absolutely love them, although I've heard the fit can a problem for some.

The sound on these are more clear and natural than my $100 iems. For this price you can't beat them. Great soundstage and clarity. Really enjoying them with classical music.

Your probably right lol I've been using Thinksound Rain 1 & 2 forever. I was just looking for something with wide soundstage and clear vocals and instrument seperation. This will hold me off, not very comfortable or isolating. Have any recommendations?

Sorry for the late reply. For the money, I'd definitely recommend 1MORE's triple driver IEMs. I got them for a little over a hundred at full price, but I've seen sale prices as low as around 75. They'd be fantastic for what you say you're looking for - wide sound stage and clear differentiation between instruments.
