jayxI have both, the Monk+ has a large port ending by the wire that gives it a much more airy sound as others have described. As earbuds go, the Monk+ compares more to an open set of headphones. The hybrids sound more like a closed set of cans, the separate drivers are readily apparent in the sound signature - there is a decent amount of bass and highs, while the mid range is kind of a mixed bag. It is better suited to electronic/hip hop/r&b.
The Monk+ is lighter on the bass, much better for vocals, rock, and country. I would say the Monk+ is better for relaxing type of music, and to me was more fun because it is a unique type of sound for an earbud to do so well imaging wise. It helps you hear the "echo" type noise of vocals you hear in a lot of the recordings. The Monk+ is worth the money, while it may not be a miracle it is a great experience for a good price. The earbuds are a bit bigger, like old school cheap Sony buds so they can get uncomfortable for long periods. They can fall out pretty easily if you don't have big ears.
I have a small assortment of earbuds under $40, the hybrids are also fairly unique in this price range with multiple drivers. For songs where both drivers are working at the same time this earbud shines, giving a fuller sound with more separation. The bass in certain songs can be clear and impactful, occasionally muddy in the wrong song. When listening to rock or mid heavy music, I prefer other earbuds like my MEE CW31p's (really like MEE's tip selection for comfort). The hybrids give you a glimpse of what dual driver earphones can accomplish, fit pretty decently and have a really nice look to them.
Cord is nicer than the Monk+, which has a rubber coating that can snag. I have the EX pack for the Monk+, I prefer the rubber rings but those rub off the earphones in my bag sometimes.
If I had to choose one, I'd go with the Monk+, but I carry both in my bag because of the bass bump of the hybrids.
