A tribute to the Swiss Army’s famous Cougar AS 532 helicopters, which are headquartered in the town of Alpnach, this automatic chronograph offers a handful of pilot-focused functions and designs. The first thing you’ll notice is the running seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, the hands of which are designed to look like a helicopter’s propellers. The Alpnach is also fitted with a unidirectional 120-click bezel for countdown purposes, as well as an internal tachymeter scale. And the build quality? With PVD coating on the crown, pushers, and heavily knurled bezel, plus a slightly domed sapphire crystal, it’s every bit as tough as the Swiss Army itself.
Note: This drop is limited to 100 units.
Once known for its Swiss quartz movements, Victorinox has begun to produce more automatics, and the Alpnach is one of these. It’s fitted with ETA 7750 (formerly Valjoux 7750), a long-produced and widely used chronograph movement that can be seen through the Alpnach’s display caseback. Design elements include lumed sword-style hands, a white-tipped seconds hand, and partially obscured Arabic numerals where the subdials reside. In addition to the unique running seconds subdial, the watch features 30-minute and 12-hour timers, the former at 12 and the latter at 6. A date window is positioned at 6 o’clock.
