omgjjdIt should probably be noted, the reviews of the dive master 500 quartz (in the various dial colors) on Amazon indicate that the movement, in some cases, has been replaced by cheaper knock-off movements, depending on the seller. It would be nice if Massdrop could verify the authenticity of these watches...

omgjjdThis is incorrect. What you have linked to here on amazon is the 38mm version of the watch. This drop is for the 43mm version. Look at the date window on the right, the 38mm has a circular date window and the 43mm has a square date window. It is not the same watch.

jonatauncan you give a link--i looked through the first 4 pages that came up on amazon when searching for these reviews and I don't see anyone mentioning a knock off movement. I would like to read those reviews.
I've been looking now for an hour and I have not come across one review stating the movements is different than ronda 715. Would still like to see a link to these reviews that state otherwise.

lobsterI apologize as I cannot seem to find the couple reviews that I previously mentioned. I came across these about 6 months ago, when researching a dial/strap combo of the DM500 that is no longer anywhere on amazon, which might be why I cannot seem to find the reviews... Probably should also mention that these reviews that I mentioned were regarding unscrupulous unauthorized sellers, NOT Victorinox itself as a brand ( I own 2 versions of the quartz DM 500, and absolutely love them both )
Edit: found one...

jonataunthanks. after reading that, I'm not too worried about the movement being swapped out. Originally I was worried the movement was switched by the manufacture to a lesser quality movement--specifically the ronda 515 which has only 45 months of life vs 60 and no end of life indicator, 4 less jewels and no gold plating for what its worth. But it looks like the buyer was told a rumor and it seems like an unplausible rumor since it takes a lot of work to gut the original movement, replace it with a no-name movement, and attach the hands back to the face and re--assemble the watch. This is a process that a watch repairer would charge over 100 dollars to do just for the labor cost alone. ronda movements are so inexpensive, it doesn't make much sense to me why anyone would bother doing this in the first place, and it looks like the source got their information second hand from someone they called--it seems more likely to me the person who they called did not want to work on the watch or did not want to issue a return. there do however seem to be a number of complaints that are concerning, the main one being the watch second hand falls off, and the second being the crown screws down, but while doing so, it turns the hands to the wrong time. both have been mentioned sporadically but repeatedly and it seems like a quality control and design problem from victorinox--at least on the older models of the DM 500 with the sword hands. Designing a case and movement holder that correctly allows the crown to screw down without adjusting the time simultaneously seems like a basic design problem with the dimensions of the case or the retention ring inside the case. Getting the hands to not fall off is just a basic quality issue that hopefully has been resolved since this watch has been on the market for half a decade now.
by the way, the 715 movement in this watch has a battery life of 5 years using the standard silver oxide 371 button cell. hacking the movement saves 70% power.
The white face and pvd case would look great on a black zulu strap IMO.

jonataunSeems like too much talk about whether it has the Swiss $5-6 Ronda movement or not. It's a mass produced $5-6 movement. You can buy it a single unit for about $10-11 and half that when a manufacturer purchases by the thousands.

condor9I know the movement really is the least important thing in quartz watches, but i wanted to make sure it has the 715 ronda specifically for the 5 year battery life and end of life indicator feature. EOL is actually one of the requirements for any dive watch to carry the word "diver" printed on the dial. I know this watch was not submitted for iso 6425 standards to carry the designation "diver" watch, but I think that has more to do with how much it would cost to test every watch individually to qualify for this designation. Based on the specs I think it would pass all the requirements needed to consider it a true diving watch. If it had the ronda 515 without EOL indicator, or if it did not have lume on the second hand or lume on the timing bezel, it would not pass. http://blog.thewatchenthusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/ISO-6425.pdf
