I have LOTS of experience with multitools. I originally bought this while deployed in Iraq after having broken my third multitool during tour, on a whim, as I'd literally tried everything else they had at the PX. Most multitools are weak around the pliers: I've sheared the pliers off pretty much every brand multitool EXCEPT this one. Alas, after a few years, I lost my original SwissTool in some equipment (I believe) and couldn't find another. Ended up going to the Victorinox store in NYC, and they had (1) left, which I swiftly purchased. This second SwissTool has never left my side. As I sit here at this desk and type, it remains in a prominent position on my desk near the keyboard, as I use it all the time.
Some important points I have to elaborate upon if you're not sure on this purchase: * This is practically the only pair of pliers that won't accidentally give you a pinch-related blister (Looking at you Gerber) * The mechanism that locks/releases tools is incredibly resilient. In mine, it remains as smooth and reliable as the day I bought it. I suppose I could put some 4-in-1 oil or something in there, but I like the slight resistance from years and years of use. * The model I have is a few years old: the only difference I can identify with scrutiny is that mine has a curved serrated blade in place of the file. * On countless occasions I've put the pliers through their paces. We're talking double-fisted, vein-popping stress, and it has held up phenomenally. * The pliers also make great wire strippers when you're in a clinch. * the reamer/punch makes for a great "I need a hole in something quick" tool. * the metalwork is silky smooth with no rough edges to get your hand pinched on/in/between. * seriously, I'm thinking of buying this, even though I already have one, b/c at $89 this is a steal in my opinion
