67 layers Damascus and hammered, and does not show the signature coloration people love about the pattern weld? Nobody in their right mind would do such a cheap looking hammered finish on Damascus, much less not show the beauty of its exotic looking patterning. This sounds bogus.

That's ok. Personally I find strong patterns to be too much on larger knives. Though if we are to be historically accurate with the metals used, Damascus steel were too brittle for use in larger blades such as this length. Hence it's probably why the strong patterning is more palatable in its smaller form. Thinking about it, if they really had the budget to manufacture such an expensive knife, they should also have the budget for good photographs as well. Everything looks like bad photoshop from what we're given.

TibblewinklesLol that seems to be the way on most of the kitchen knives here. I just don't get it, it takes no more time to set up a decent photo in a light box than it does to cleanly photoshop a product pic.... Hell, less time if you just keep a light box set up on the corner of a desk in one of the offices

All good points. I am waiting to see Massdrop reply. Hopefully with solid details.

Has anyone heard of this, beyond salted promo? I found a Kickstarter campaign for another line of their knives. What established cutlery firm does this? They're soliciting inquiries for bulk buys. They show Amazon among logos in this section (along with Massdrop), but "Vie Belles Knife" brings up no Vie Belles knives on Amazon. Someone named "Maryam" and "Chef Maryam" is giving them endorsements. She's the VP of the Vie Belles. The company is doing business out of a building that's a mail forwarder in Vally Cottage, NY.
What's going on here, and why is Massdrop bringing us products that appear untried and uncredentialed?

PennThere's no way a VG10 knife would be $499 retail either. You can get a 7" Shun Premier Santoku for $200USD retail.. way better fit and finish.
