I see that the 7 piece set is only $150 on Amazon.

StueyThe individual knives are all cheaper here, but as you say $150 for the 7 piece block set on Amazon is a much better deal. Do note that it's a 3rd party seller and Amazon's own price for the set is just over $300. Camelcamelcamel shows a lowest ever price on the set of $99 (again from a 3rd party seller).

The current price for the chef's knife by itself is $130 on Amazon, but one of the reviews claims he bought it on sale for $30 last year. CCC only records a lowest ever price of $59 for the chef's knife from a third party seller, so that $30 price probably wasn't available for very long.
