I bought a microtome sharpener from a university outlet for little money and that must be by far the most amazing knife sharpener ever built. Every blade I sharpen w/that thing ends up sharp enough to shave as good and as with as much comfort as my single blade razor. I just wish the unit was smaller.
As a side note, I had contacted Mike at Viper during the Kickstarter campaign as the ad appeared to suggest that the unit was heavy enough to stand on its own during sharpening although in fact it requires clamping to operate as it is too light to do otherwise. It looks like the Russian variant might be a strong competitor and is only $50 more while shipping, which might be a lot less for European based customers in case the Viper ships to Europe. The concerns about uneven mounting of the stones described below is a bit concerning and I'd be curious if Mike can make a statement about that, especially since one of his raters appeared to imply that there was indeed an issue that would however go awayw/more expertise in manufacturing (I am paraphrasing the comment by Sheffieldsg).

DesastorThanks for the comments. There certainly have been some bumps as I've worked to get this product to the world. It has been an incredible learning experience and I have found issues that were unknown and could not be known until the manufacturing happened. The stone gluing was a big challenge and it has improved a lot over the past few months. I'm happy to replace any parts that need it. That's the way I want to run business and I'll stand behind any product I make. The issue with the thickness of the natural stones is an interesting one. Most stones people use (Especially with guided systems) are man made stones. My kit includes both natural and manmade stones. There are certain benefits to the natural stones that you just won't get with a manmade product. The challenge however comes from the fact that these natural stones are literally cut from the earth and shaped to the size needed and then lapped by hand from the manufacturer I use. You just aren't going to get exactness with that kind of a process when compared to a part that comes out of a mold (Ceramic stones). One thing I am working on to help is to offer a complete set of manmade stones. I'm always open to feedback and will work to improve the product until it is something everyone loves. The new stones will be added to the site as soon as they come in.

1stmeridianI think diamond or even water stones would be a great addition. Having used Arkansas stones on some of these more modern steels, it's almost an exercise in futility, and you definitely need something that is more abrasive.
