Understated & Unconvential

At first glance, Visconti’s Homo Sapiens Steel Age Maxi fountain pen is conservative: black barrel, stainless steel trim. But its construction is quite the opposite. From the nib to the barrel to the cap, this Italian-made pen is anything but humdrum. Even the premium leather case, which offers a snug pillow for the pen and features a hidden drawer at the bottom, is unconventionally luxe.

Note: At check-out, you can select a nib size from Extra-Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad, Double-Broad, and Stub (1.3 mm).

23-Karat Palladium Nib

Perhaps most notable about the pen is the nib. Visconti has dubbed it the Dream Touch nib, and for good reason. Crafted in Florence, it’s made of 23-karat palladium—a rare and lustrous metal that belongs to the platinum group. In its role on the Homo Sapiens Steel Age, it offers a bit of flex, good line variation, and wet—but never gushing—flow.

Basaltic Lava Barrel

Made of basaltic lava from Sicily’s Etna Volcano, the Maxi-size barrel is slightly soft to the touch but virtually indestructible. Nonflammable and heat-resistant, it’s able to absorb the user’s warmth and moisture. The postable cap is also unique, with its twist-and-lock mechanism, and the top is appointed with a textured Visconti insignia. Made of stainless steel, the spring-loaded bridge clip is classic Visconti: accented in black on either side with the company name.

Just got it a few days back...I ordered the F nib.It was going to be my dream everyday writer...But after a few days I am thinking it could be improved...It has some problems... The nib is a bit scratchy...Did get rid of that after some adjustment to the nib. It has the power filler system which holds 1ml of ink.Or thereabouts because it is hard to figure if it is really filled fully.(I usually just fill it twice because according to YouTube reviews it should fill the pen at least about 70%.I tried with another skeleton Visconti of mine that is also power filler and it should be true)But from what I've experienced the ink just ran out really quick which is not very ideal for a supposed to be everyday writer...The nib is so wet it usually runs out after about 1 day of mild-to-frequent usage...I know dry ink should make it better but I am not sure I've any at hand...Maybe Montblanc ones? But I tried and the flow is still fairly heavy.... Last but not least the blind cap at the end does not align properly...One side stick out...Which does not seems to be very appropriate considering the price.... Overall I would not recommend it if you can't find someone to adjust the ink flow...And preferably buy from someone that will check the pen for you/you can check in person.Visconti's QC is rather shabby. PS:I knew this from a YouTube review of this pen that Pd only cost about half of Gold....So don't over hype it.Though it does write beautifully if the nib doesn't have QC problem.Very smooth and decent amount of flex. PPS:If you are like me who change inks/flush pens often you might find the color might be mixed or the pen might tend to leak. The problem it is hard to get everything out of the pen.Ink/water might be left in there. To solve this you might need to use the Richard Binder's method of wrap the nib in a paper/towel and then swing/shake it many many times to get it clean. It might be just water coming out at first but I do find some residue of inks if I do it long enough. This happens with other power fillers but this one is opaque thus it is hard to tell if it is cleaned or not which can be troublesome.
