I really like the dreamtouch nib and hand feel of my Manhattan Magma, but will pass on this pen. While I love the faceted design, the barrel/section join looks quite uncomfortable!

I will disagree with the comments about Palladium. Palladium is a Platinum group metal and is much more rare than both gold or platinum. It is the most expensive of common precious metals and is about 35% more expensive than platinum by weight and also more expensive than gold. It is a very durable metal that is more noble than gold, being less susceptible to tarnishing. Palladium made products do not need to be plated to prevent tarnishing. As far as cost is concerned, it is the most costly to manufacture, being difficult to work with and finish. The purity of palladium made items is also more pure than those of gold. Palladium is commonly used at 90-95% purity VS 58% for 14k and 75% for 18k gold. So all things being equal, Palladium made nibs do not present cost savings vs Gold. Visconti uses a 95.8% percent pure Palladium alloy. I think the confusion with cheap palladium nibs comes from manufacturers commonly plating nibs with palladium, not using it as a base metal.

AndreSchwartzI would echo these comments. No knowing about the value or price if the different metals much, I can confidently vouch for the feel and performance of the palladium nib Visconti uses. They are every bit as good as the recent gold nibs, if different feeling and are beautifully finished. I have had a decent sample of these and found none of them unuseable as often claimed. The flow is usually generous and the line width tends toward the next nib size up compared with many others however a really good one is glorious to write with. Actually, for a power filler acrosilk pen, the price isn't bad, just a non starter for import to the UK where import tax + VAT will be a killer and it can be had from Europe for less anyway. Also, as usual for Massdrop the nib choice here is too limited.

If you saw this pen sitting on a desk next to six, one-hundred dollar bills, and someone said: "Take your pick--the pen or the bills"--which would you chose? Yup, I thought so...

I have 2 Visconti pens with palladium nibs (stub and double broad) and I like them. They are soft, and for writing experience, both palladium nib and gold nib feels similar to me. As for the price, palladium jumps quite a bit these days. In fact, palladium costs more than gold for the last week or so. https://www.apmex.com/spotprices/palladium-price

RIP off as all palladium nibs are. It was the lowest entry level on Sheaffer pens for years. This pen is a $150 pen at best. Visconti is robbing the buyer by substituting junk at gold pricing.

I’ve asked before and I will ask again - why on Earth would anyone pay MORE for a ballpoint or rollerball setup?

ChesterfieldKingIt's an additional roller ball/ballpoint along with the fountain pen.

Keep in mind that Visconti’s 23-karat palladium Dreamtouch nib is not meant to be flexed. Palladium is a soft metal that springs easily if pushed too hard. Once that happens, you will need to replace the nib. That's why the pen comes with a little "warning label" stating that the weight of the pen is enough. Palladium is less expensive than gold and not nearly as robust. As far as the price, look around.
