Hey Will,
Bummed I missed out on this one. Any interest in bringing it back? I checked out what I think is your online store, vulturepremium, but didn't see it there. I also found your etsy, but I guess you're taking a break lol
Wallets looks great! I'm eager to see everyone's impressions when they start getting them.
Hi Will,
Quick question since this is my first Massdrop purchase are you sending it to them and then they ship or do you send them to us directly?
Thanks
Chris
I have one of those exact wallet. They are in extremely high quality. I used it for a bit over a year and it looks better as it ages. I am about to rub it with some leather conditioner today and see this drop. Here are some photos:
eric_yvrThank you for the vote of confidence!
Here is a bifold I made that has been used daily for 3 years (never conditioned) with a North of Cordovan exterior featuring the tiger striping:
great jobs explaining towards the questions of leather! Thread/leather colour contrast combination is amazing, and I can tell the quality and beauty from hand-pricked-and-sewed process. Saddle stitchs are nicely done, though some of the ending-part could be little bit improved in my opnion. And also it would look much more delicate and pricy if the distance between the stitchline and edge is down a bit. Anyways, great works from you guys, and its a shame that there are 0 purchases now!
FBAMYes, it is not Shell Cordovan.
Am I missing something or does it say Shell Cordovan somewhere in one of the descriptions or menus?
It is described as North of Cordovan on Horween's own website:
"The strip (a.k.a. bark strip, russet horsehide strip, natural horsebutt strip, north of cordovan, and others) is thick relative to the front, and typically ranges from 4 - 10 oz, or 1.6 mm to 4 mm. This is great leather, though it's a little funky to work with due to the shape."

"North of Cordovan" obviously has a better ring to it than the other names mentioned above, so I choose to use that name.
The description clearly states that it is North of Cordovan and even goes on to mention the chrome tanning process. Shell Cordovan isn't chrome tanned, it is a pure vegetable tanned leather.
For these reasons I would argue that it is not misleading.
Thanks for checking out the drop, Will
"tigerstripe"
Looks like what they do to cowhide to make "buffalo" leather.
They dry it out, which is not good for the leather, and honestly makes an inferior product.
whomad1215I can assure you that this leather hasn't been turned into "buffalo leather". This leather is quite the opposite of dry, as all of Horween's leathers are. Being a Chromexcel leather it is heavily stuffed with fats waxes and oils. This would be considered on the "wetter" side of leathers. It can go years without needing to be conditioned.
The tiger striping is part of the horse hide and is not a result of the tanning process. Just like brands, neck wrinkles, and scars show through on bovine leather, these markings are occasionally on skin from the horse's rear.
Just to clarify, these markings cannot be removed with use or conditioner. My buddy has a wallet with this same leather that he has been using for three years, I will try to get a photo of it in the next day or so.
