"tigerstripe" Looks like what they do to cowhide to make "buffalo" leather. They dry it out, which is not good for the leather, and honestly makes an inferior product.

whomad1215Good point. I assume treating the dry leather with leather lotion or cream could eventually "erase" the "tigerstripe", in addition to leather patina with normal use.
whomad1215I can assure you that this leather hasn't been turned into "buffalo leather". This leather is quite the opposite of dry, as all of Horween's leathers are. Being a Chromexcel leather it is heavily stuffed with fats waxes and oils. This would be considered on the "wetter" side of leathers. It can go years without needing to be conditioned.
The tiger striping is part of the horse hide and is not a result of the tanning process. Just like brands, neck wrinkles, and scars show through on bovine leather, these markings are occasionally on skin from the horse's rear.
ZZ_UPennJust to clarify, these markings cannot be removed with use or conditioner. My buddy has a wallet with this same leather that he has been using for three years, I will try to get a photo of it in the next day or so.
