It still works with a usb power bank instead of the builtin battery pack, but it isn't very nice to ship with a battery that fails so soon. I'd just remove the battery from the back of the headband, but the elastic straps are all permanently affixed rather than allowing their removal & reconfiguration.
Unless I can get it fixed I'll likely have to replace the straps with new ones just so I can avoid lugging around a dead battery everywhere.
