I’m bummed I missed out on the single layer. Hoping for a next time!
earlssarI own the double-layer "lightweight" version, unless one absolutely needs to save the weight I recommend the double layer. Unless you don't have mosquitoes in your area of the world the double layer helps significantly with keeping them from biting you through the bottom of the hammock.

As a family of Warbonnet lovers, I will say that my wife and daughter love their BlackBirds and I loved mine until I tried the XLC. I am 5'11" and around 200# and I tried the XLC at a group hang and sold my BlackBird asap and bought the XLC. Additionally, the Wooki series of under quilts are AMAZING!!!! Spend the dope on one to go with your BB or BBXLC!! They are worth it. No adjustment, just plug and play. We have the 3 season (20 degree) Wooki's and I also have the Scandinavian (-24 degree!!) Wooki and they all work great and keep us temperate at recommended temps. I have been to 12 degrees with the 3 season and -1 with the Scandi and never cold. Even when warm out they don't overheat you. You CAN add a biner or cord to lower one end for ventilation though if needed. WARBONNET FOR THE WIN!!!

If folks are as interested in the XLC version as the number of comments and endorsements here shows, go over to the XLC drop and request it so we can show Massdrop our interest. Last I looked the number of requests was over 300, but checking again now it's only at 33. Let's get that number up so we can get a drop!
planb10113With cottage vendors like this I would bet it has more to do with a drop in their incoming workload than any number of requests on Massdrop. Warbonnet is not a large company and goes into a backlog at various times of the year. Love the company, my wallet still doesn't understand the need for multiple hammocks :)

I've owned 3 of the WBBB, 2 of which were XLCs. I'm 6 ft and while I can fit in a regular Blackbird, the XLC is so roomy and comfortable. The footbox is a great differentiator among hammocks--you get a much flatter lay with a shorter Ridgeline. The shelf is perfect to store more than fits in most ridgeline organizers. I backpack so I went with the SL XLC (2nd Gen) and have enjoyed it immensely. I like to potential to reverse the lay direction. Adding Whoopi slings makes a great upgrade to quickly adjust the suspension while saving a few oz. Can't recommend this hammock enough!

I’m wondering if with tax and 15$ shipping it doesn’t equal the same cost as buying directly from Warbonnet with no tax?

Wow, so the hammock is too short for those of us 6'4" and taller. Yet again... Massdrop please support us taller people.

HikingWombatYeah, I was wondering the same thing. I've been looking at the Blackbird XLC and the Eldorado series (along with the Dream Hammock Sparrow, Hennessey Hammock Jungle Safari, Dutchware Chameleon Wide and the DD Hammock XL Frontline) because according to Warbonnet's website the Blackbird is good for folks up to 6'-0". Maybe next time the Drop will offer both the Blackbird and the Blackbird XLC so that us taller folks will be able to take advantage. I checked the price of a Heavyweight Double Blackbird w/ Whoopie and Shipping here on the Drop against that shown on Warbonnet's site and it appears as though the Drop will be a 21% discount which is really nice.

While my Warbonnet Blackbird hammock is the first gen XLC model (Xtra Large Convertible) and is shown here with the then-optional winter top cover, which replaces the included mosquito bug netting cover, therefore not exactly what is being offered here in this particular drop, it is nonetheless a fantastic product manufactured by an American vendor with superb customer service — and for that, as a buyer, I could not be more satisfied. This model is especially cavernous and exquisitely comfortable. I also own the WB Traveler XL hammock (bought right here on Massdrop!), which is essentially the same as the XLC with its top cover removed (sans the zipper). I opted for the whoopie slings & tree straps option (this was before the continuous loop option was ever offered).

I’m pretty sure that the double-layer hammocks should not be labeled “Number of people: 2”.
