Product Description
Made by Danny Stowe, owner of California-based Wasteland Oddities, these distressed leather Zippos combine the tried-and-true quality of Zippo Armor with the craftsmanship of a home artisan. Tested by Stowe himself, the lighters look and feel more like wood than leather, and each one exudes his distinctive aesthetic—a well-traveled, post-apocalyptic vibe that pays tribute to the Wasteland name Read More

I got the last drop from WO, I love the damn thing. I'm not huge on the designs with color but I appreciate their designs.

StreetkidYou can appreciate the work put in, even though the final art isn't to your particular taste?

I hope to see more WO zippos here. I am kicking myself I missed the last drop, these are not quite to my taste. Hopefully I will own one of these beauties in the future.

For comparison, I'd like to point out that a classic Zippo made from solid sterling silver sells for $154 on Zippo's website. At the current price of $15.60 per ounce, the material cost of the silver alone hardly justifies that level of price increase.

krazysamuraiThis is a very poor attempted justification, at best. It takes significant effort to form and create the sterling silver Zippo lighter. Well above the spot price of silver (almost everything sells above the spot price when you're dealing with receipt of physical metal - a United States Silver Eagle, for example). The cost differential between your standard Zippo and a sterling silver Zippo has remained relatively static for quite some time. Back during the world wars and into Vietnam, if you had a sterling silver Zippo, people could tell you didn't mess around (and had VERY deep pockets). Many sterling Zippos from that period have significantly appreciated in value. Something every artist wishes will happen to their product(s). Not even one single person here has so much as even attempted m to claim they should be paying something like $13 + a few bucks worth of leather, binding. and paint for these semi-custom decorated Zippo lighters. The manipulation you've attempted here is entirely unacceptable. To the Massdrop members who simply respectfully shared their opinion on the pricing of the product. To then have you attack and insult, post lies about why you're here, then claim that you're somehow now the victim in all of this, while ultimately threatening to strong arm Massdrop into improperly silencing those who wish to only share their opinions on the relative value of this item in the comments section. No one has "berated" the artist over his pricing. Not even once.
Massdop is an eclectic group of very differently minded, passionate individuals. The one thing that we all seem to share is a desire to pay reasonable prices for our products. Contrary to the insults you've already spread among us, we're not cheap, by any stretch if the term. We don't, in fact, ever waste our money on mass produced Chinese garbage. We make personal determinations on what we feel a fair price is. Either through comparisons to what other vendors are charging for identical or comparable products, or by using our own internal gauge of value/worth. Seeing the large number of items selling for many hundfreds of dollars here, this should have made that immediately clear. For many, myself included, I don't feel I could ever turn around and resell this lighter, even in perfect and fully unused condition, for anywhere near $150. This is not an insult to the artist. His work looks incredible, and good for him. Again, questioning the value of this lighter is not an attack on you, or anyone for that matter. It's simply an opinion shared. And with all of your unreasonable accusations, you, of all people, should be able to readily recognize an opinion.
As you may have already noticed elsewhere, extremely expensive novelty items such as this, tend to have pretty small customer bases. Not everyone is going to jump out of the woodwork to purchase something of this nature. Those who can/can't afford such a steep expense, to that even smaller subset who would even desire a product like this. You're always going to see comments discussing most aspects of the drop. And perhaps even see a couple of actual orders from it. Unfortunately, with the extremely shady behavior that has been encountered here, that could potentially be significantly less. If that does happen, there is only one person that would carry that blame. The person who attempted to insult us, ridicule us, who falsely claimed we were somehow "attacking" the vendor and brand new MD user, the one who made empty and baseless threats to leave MD for said earlier "attacks," and then by trying to tell us that somehow we're still to blame: "simply because you are not part of his or her target market only hurts the community & discourages guys like Danny from offering discounted drops in the 1st place." Massdrop is a revolutionary group buying sales platform. Those vendors who have seen success here, appear to have significant reoccurring success by partnering with Massdrop. The business relationship we have with vendors here is a fair and balanced two-way street. Tell you the truth, I still don't know what you're even attempting to say here...
Respect for customers is very promptly returned and often multiplied in kind here on Massdrop. When a vendor has earned a dedicated customer with an exceptional product coupled with exceptional customer service, very often you will see that customer then purchase eveything offered on all future drops. I have a handful of companies that I do exactly this on. Using shady and underhanded lies and accusation unfortunately is not.

If you have a problem with the price, don't pay it. Danny is an extremely well known leather artisan & craftsman whose work is in very high demand. Instagram auctions for some of his lighters have claimed prices more than twice this high, so the demand is there. Granted, this isn't a necessity, it's a luxury piece. You're buying the artwork, not the lighter. If you simply want a Zippo, hit up the 1941 replica drop up right now, pay your $12.99 & have fun. I for one applaud Danny for being willing to offer a discount for those who know his work & have been looking for an opportunity to score one of his pieces. I love being part of the Massdrop community, but I'm tired of seeing people complain about high end luxury items being overpriced out of their own ignorance. I appreciate it when members post helpful comments about pricing, like those informing the community that a particular item happens to be cheaper on another site. But berating an artisan for offering a discount simply because you are not part of his or her target market only hurts the community & discourages guys like Danny from offering discounted drops in the 1st place.
krazysamuraiThank you very much for your kind words and support! You hit the nail on the head exactly. Thank you again
