I just don't understand why people spend 270 bucks on a knife that is not any more practical than a 150 bucks spyderco. (In fact, a little less, I think) I know, it got all the bells and whistles but, really? 270 bucks?
This is more on par with one of the limited edition ZTs than anything in their standard line-up - there's an absurd amount of machining on the handle scales, including (at least on the WE knives that I've handled) significant milling on the interior to reduce weight, multiple finishes that have to be done, anodizing the highlights, etc. I will say that ZT comes pretty close in terms of value, though largely as a testament to economies of scale - WE is a much smaller company.
Yes, it's the price of a PREMIUM knife. Doesn't matter where it's from. This isn't some standard factory produced crap like half the American companies pump out these days. This is a well designed and manufactured knife that stands up to ZT and the like just fine.
