I can understand that; expectations of deep discounts are high on Massdrop, and I can't say that I'm not a little proud to have helped earn that reputation :) Our buying team always goes to bat for the best prices to members, and mostly we can achieve that. Sometimes not, and mostly we turn those products/brands down.
You will see every dealer selling WE Knife at 15% off for a very good reason - WE requires it. Same with Spyderco, Benchmade, Chris Reeve, ZT, and others We're able to premier knives here (the black blade version has not reached any other dealers yet, AFAIK), but we're not able to offer them at a lower price.
Many vendors we work with feel, as we do, that MAP does not apply to a site like Massdrop, where login is required, drops only last a few days, and a volume discount is justified. Some don't, and choose not to sell on our platform. Some, like WE Knife, enforce MAP but find other ways to try and add value to the community - like offering almost every new model here first.
For some people, that's exciting and a reason to join the drop. I'm surprised to see this one lagging; every other WE Knife that we've sold has flown off the shelves - I think it's because this is a new variant and not a totally new model, but anyone can let me know if there are other factors.
Anyways, long reply there but just wanted to give some context for the pricing on this.
Thanks for the reply and reasoning behind the pricing for drops. You're right, we usually always save some money, and often can get Massdrop exclusives like special materials (knife blades), etc. We get used to that and then forget that there may be reasons such as discount caps! I am one who thinks the discount rules probably shouldn't apply to a membership site like this, but I totally understand that some companies still will not allow it.
