Really good deal here. 1)Just curious, is this set able to be mounted on those wicked edge marble base? 2) how does the clamp system of gen 3 (pro pack) compares to gen 1 (normal pack)?

ZhaoGen3 clamp is self centering and uses a cam-lock system that does not allow you to control tension of the clamp. Also, it reportedly has two smaller knubs rather than a single flat surface, and so can easily mar the blade. It is very controversial; if you check Youtube and Reddit, you will find some people saying they wish they had stuck with the Gen2 because of the issues clamping some knives (primarily FFG, but really any knife without a flat area near the spine) in the Gen3 clamp. This is really ironic because WE initially touted the Gen3 clamp as the solution to clamping issues with FFG knives. Instead it seems they made it worse. I see videos of people using chamois or other materials to pad the blade so they can get a good clamp in the Gen3. This is particularly concerning given the Gen3 supports a max blade thickness of 3/16 inch (Gen2 will support twice that).
I have been researching this topic recently. Based on the complete lack of replies from WE to questions about this on their forums, I am thinking it is still an issue, and I am leaning towards the Gen2 system. I am not sure about the question about mounting. I want the base as well, and wish this Massdrop was for the Gen2 Pro Pack instead...

ZhaoBased on my experience with the "pro" model being sold in this drop, no, there's no way to mount it to the granite base. This comes with a c-clamp to mount it to a workbench, table, etc.
The clamp on the gen 3 does have the ability to mar the finish of a knife... that's not a guarantee. I am attaching a photo of my CRKT Wrinkle that I've sharpened on my Gen 3 several times. (I think 7... possibly 8). I've never used painters tape on the spine like I have with my wife's kitchen knives... I don't know if they would be marred... and to keep her happy I use one layer of painters tape and I've never had a single scratch from the clamp. This knife has some blemishes on the surface near the cutting edge but that's also ok with me because I've had it 4 years and had it on me/used it every day.
There's a bigger difference between the two clamps worth thinking about... the max blade thickness that can be clamped is only 3/16 on the gen 3.... you can change the jaws for the it but thats an upgrade you need to buy... once it's locked in, it's not like you have to change the mount.... so if you are at all concerned... go gen 2.
