I could be wrong but I think the one that everyone is screeching about is the basic model. I bought mine for 64.99 on eBay but it has no case and only a basic gaurd (two angle slots I think ) and only three belts I think. This looks to be a slightly upgraded package. I rarely use it for knives since as others have pointed out, it removes material FAST. Although I was able to grind a point back onto my girlfriend's Leek after she snapped it off at work. It works great for farm tools though.
Yep make sure you check your the prices. Hopefully they do better on the price I would like to get one.
I have to agree with Crosshairs below, Home Depot is advertising the same outfit for $69.99, delivered; and that includes free delivery.
Massdrop, it would behoove you to cross check inputs to ensure things like this do not happen. It really sullies your reputation. Believe me, though I have only bought a few items from your site, rest assured I've checked prices elsewhere to be sure I am getting a good deal.
This drop should be banned, the msrp is less than advertised and is still cheaper on Amazon, DO NOT BUY. THIS IS OVERPRICED AND THIS VENDOR IS NOT GIVING A DEAL AT ALL REPORT THIS DROP
Can you do a drop for the sanding belts?
I have one of these and can't recommend it for knives. It removes too much material too fast and has a tendency to grind where you don't want it to and creates curved edges in both dimensions rather than straight. I stopped using mine, went back and learned how to use water stones properly, and get much better results, and the knives last a lot longer. But it is occasionally useful as a small belt grinder for crafting stuff.
If it was the Ken Onion edition that would be a good price. But for this one, Please.
It's $89.95 on the manufacturer's website. Wonder where Massdrop's $104.95 MSRP came from.

Wow... Scammers
$69.95 at Woodcraft Supply and Amazon. So, why was this even offered?

Got the tool sharpener or knife makers attachments? I already have the unit, but might be interested in those if you have them and want to sell separate

Is it complete? How much are you looking to get for it? Contact: f761667@gmail.com
Great tool, bad price.
I have one and don’t recommend for pocket knives, it is way too easy to accidentally damage/excessively sharpen a knife with. Tools I can see it being practical for, but I only use wicked edge and Spyderco sharpmaker on my nice knives.
I have this already. I would like to get the Ken Onion Edition to sharpen my 15 degree knives.
I love these Work Sharp doodads! I used them in my knife shop and still use them at home to sharpen all the blades we have from kitchen, garden, to pocket. I used to do my sharpening by hand, but in my old age, just cant be bothered anymore, unless the knife (for whatever reason) really needs it...which is rare. I wouldn't recommend the ken onion version. Its pretty substandard, Never worked as well as this one, and definitely didn't last. I also definitely wouldnt recommend getting it here. That price is bonkers.
wtf massdrop, this is $69.99 on Amazon. I like some other products/deals you have but this kind of bs makes me thinking about not buying things from here anymore.
Same as everyone else :
This version is $10-20 cheaper on other sites The Ken Onion version is the better choice I've never used this on a knife I care about keeping a real precise angle on. I have used it for rough reprofiling where a lot of material needs removing, or putting edges on tools that also don't have to be precise
Skip this here 🙄
Hopefully they will offer the Ken Onion version. Much handier for pocket/fixed blade EDC knives.
I have one of these and use it to fix up garden tools and my bigger fixed blade knives. I'd suggest that if anyone really wants to get one for knives to get the newer Ken Onion version. Also the price here is too high.
I don't usually "bag" on Massdrop products, but I'll second/third/fourth the sentiment that this isn't a good deal.
The Ken Onion edition has a larger motor, more belts, more attachments available. And it can be found for less than $99. If you're considering this drop, take a hard look at the KE edition first. You'll get a better product and save money.
They're an excellent sharpening system provided you want a convex edge. I can get my knives mirror sharp with a little bit of time.

Also : what makes the KO so much superior (to me at least) is that it has variable speeds.
I don't feel comfortable with blasting this machine at full speed, because it then takes off the material too fast and if my hand lingers just for a fraction of a second more than needed, I end up with an indentation in the blade.
Furthermore : I may be paranoid, but I'm afraid of heat generated at high speeds, right on the tempered edge.

Good call and that completely slipped my mind. Variable speed is absolutely essential to sharpening correctly.
DO NOT BUY THIS VENDOR IS OVERCHARGING YOU MORE THAN ANY RETAILER https://www.amazon.com/Work-Sharp-Knife-Tool-Sharpener/dp/B003IT5F14 Rip Off drop should gtfo Still more expensive than on the manufactures website Ban this vendor
Dont buy it. You want the Ken Onion edition...
I got one of these a few years ago and it is an awesome tool. Although I use it with the guides to sharpen knives sometimes, I mostly use it without the guides to sharpen garden tools like axes, machetes, shovels and lawn mower blades -- using it as a hand-held mini-grinder/sharpener. It really works great at sharpening things with complex shapes that are nearly impossible to get on a grinder or bench sander like a shovel or hooked machete. However, I bought mine from Northern a few years back and it was on sale for $64.99, although that did NOT include the case and only had two angle guides. But, I am not sure why Massdrop is more expensive on this one.
Another miss ...
This is 69.99 on Amazon with Prime same day delivery...
