I currently have a love/hate relationship with my D3. I don't mind the lack of gapless; what really irks me is the UI. I have a lot of songs in my library that I haven't really heard much or at all (remember the old practice of having to buy the entire CD for just one or two songs that you liked?) that I've been discovering all over again now because I also bought the HiFiMan HE4XX (my nicest pair of cans so far) and have many new songs that I want to flag as Favorites, but the UI on the D3 to do something like that is horrendous!
If the song is playing and I press the Back key, it sometimes pops up a menu that lets me add it to Favorites. Huzzah! That's what I want! But that only happens sometimes. Most of the time that I press the back key, I'm just taken to the Home menu. Just right now I tried to replicate how I think it makes the Save as Favorite menu pop up and it popped up a modal alert that I hadn't seen yet asking if I was sure I wanted to delete the song! What the heck is this? I'm already looking into a touchscreen DAP as I don't intend to have to deal with this inconsistent D3 for long.
As for the sound quality and all that, unfortunately I'm not the guy to ask - yet. I've just started to appreciate good audio quality so am not that good at explaining things related to it nor do I have properly developed ears yet.
