At the current price, I highly recommend using this thing as a headphones amp alone. I have the first gen TA-01 with an original amazing Wolfson chip, and I currently use it just as an amp/tube buffer inputting RCA analog from another (mighty) DSD DAC. It drives almost anything and adds that warm and sparkly tube bloom.

and all from a $79 solid state chifi amp with gimmick tube buffer and nowhere near large enough transformer to make a discernible difference…amazing!
Question: why can't I connect this amp with a USB-C to USB-C cable? Only the USB-C (amp side) to USB-A connector seems to work?
I connect the amp to my MacBook Pro and thought I could cut out the use of a dongle (USB C-A) and go direct...

Used the painter's tape method to remove and swap the Chinese stock tube and replace it with a GE from the tube caddy. I thought tube swapping was going to produce some subtle change, but the sound now has way more high end. Perhaps too much, kind of shrill. Using Dekoni Blues, hard to make them sound trebly. Must roll more tubes!
