What would be the best SD card for this?
WhatNowJesus
The transfer of data from an SD card is digital, so you can't gain or lose anything in transit. Don't buy into the weird hype around "Pro" SD cards. With music files, practically anything will do. A class 10 will be more than adequate for even the best FLACs.
Digging the dap...though having to wait be smacked with a 37$ s shipping and holding and custom fee isn't what I expected as a massdrop success story...
Received mine today, my ears are loving this!
Great news group! We’re happy to report that all of the orders have been shipped out from our warehouse and are now on the way to you! Please allow 24-48 hours for tracking to get into the shipper's system and start updating.
If there’s anything else we can do to make your Massdrop experience better, feel free to contact us via “Contact Support” button in your transaction page (https://www.massdrop.com/transactions).
Quick update for the group. The vendor has confirmed that the order will be shipping our from their warehouse tomorrow. Based on past orders that means the group's bulk shipment should arrive at our warehouse around the middle of next week.
We will keep an eye on tracking and update the group as soon as the bulk order arrives.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 4/2 or sooner if something comes up.
Quick update for the group. We are in contact with the vendor and awaiting updated shipment estimates from them. We have a call scheduled first thing Monday morning and should get a bit more visibility in regards to when we can expect these in our warehouse. We will update the group as soon as these are on the way.
Currently we expect that these will be in our warehouse inline with the expected ship date listed in the drop description page.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 3/24 or sooner if something comes up.
Thanks again for joining this drop! With your help we were able to make it successful for the community. We've just submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Xuelin IHIFI 770 Audiophile Player and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them directly to you! The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 4/2.
Rest assured that we we will provide you all with updated information regarding the status of your order throughout the process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 3/20.
Just be aware that the player does not support AAC type music files, ie itunes compressed music or ALAC music files, enen though they are mentioned in the specs.
Does it not seem strange that they advertise TransFlash when it hasn't been "TransFlash" for a decade?
Amazon $129....
i have a cowon x7 rated at over 100 hours and filled with 99% FLAC files. After 4 years i still get over 30 hours despite the neglect and stress on the battery. but it's not my daily player. The Xuelin is my daily DAP for a reason. And the battery is good enough to last me 2 days on a charge. it's not ideal but good enough.
Okay, I've noticed that a lot of you guys are posting up the 770C links. The 770C can be had for under 100. Even Penonaudio carry them for 110. As for quality, I disagree with limbu's remark simply because MSRP on this player is 175.00. That is plenty and is comparable to the Fiio X3 and possibly the iBasso DX50. Both of which are better made than the Xuelin 770. Sure the IHIFI 770 can be had for less money, but I think it's because of how obscure the 770 is and its build quality. It's not badly made necessarily. They're well made when they are. But are rather fragile and QC could be better. I've had to replace mine twice already. First one had minor cosmetic blemishes which was unacceptable for a brand new device. I dropped it once and bam, the LCD lighting got messed up and now I see dark streaks on the side of the screen due to uneven lighting. I sent it in for warranty but was sent a replacement unit with the exact same issue on the other wide of the screen. What luck.
It's a great player otherwise. You get used to the UI and the device does what it's supposed to. I don't have any real issues and the form factor is impressive. I'd still rate it highly despite my opinion in regards to quality. Sound is great. In fact, its more tonally balanced than the Fiio E17. But Xuelin can take a leaf from Fiio's book when it comes to build quality.
As for battery life, most dedicated DAPs that feature quality OP Amps, LPF and etc, will use more power. The 13 hour rated battery life is pretty much on par with most other players of this caliber. Don't bother comparing it to iPods and Cowons (I have both) that have simpler circuitry. These players are proper devices that can drive full-size cans and then some. I've compared the Xuelin to few other players, including the DX90 which I own. The Xuelin doesn't compare to the DX90, but on price, it's definitely a great bang for the buck player. iPods, even when amplified lack the overall texture and detail of the Xuelin. Also lacks power in both ends of the frequency spectrum. iPods Video (with LOD out and amp) sounds more laid back. Also, they're rated at 25 hours playing normal mp3 files. Shove in lossless ALAC files in there and play it through a LOD-powered amplifier and the battery life will plummet to less than 12 hours.
Again, point is that 13 hours is decent for a player of this type. You won't find much better for under 400 USD. Most proper DAC/AMP-DAP will use up a lot of juice.
That 13 hour battery life kills this. My 5 year old Cowon player claimed 90hours when it was released and still delivers 25.

Is it worth the wait/service though?

Okay, hate to ruin MD's parade, but I bought mine over a month ago for 90 bucks local. And no, it isn't the 770C. It's the proper 770. Granted I can't get it at that price anymore. But if you go to a certain Chinese shopping site you can generally find these on sale for 130+5 USD to ship. If you negotiate with the seller, you can get them to overlook the shipping cost. bam. 130. Sorry, but total here comes to 148-150 USD. It's not the bargain I had hoped it might be. I'd be more interested in the new IHIFI 800 at this point. ESS 9018K2M DAC.
A word of caution to those who have never owned a Xuelin player. The quality pales in comparison to Fiio. I've written a review and comparo (between iPod Video, iBasso DX90 and Fiio E17 Alpen) on headfi for those interested.

As for quality I will say it is fine for the price you paid. You are comparing a dap with different price and an e17 which is not a day. Add the cost of a affordable(sansa) the price goes up by a bit but then there's the quality. I have the fiio x1. I will say my xuelin sounds better but each to own
February 10th and I still haven't receive my stuff ! truly disappointed.
Why is no body active on this discussion forum. I don't see rest of the other 20 people, and there should be some kind of response to individuals here from Massdrop. I don't think,I'll buy anything from here in future.

It has been 31 days and I still haven't heard anything about it yet.

You aren't alone my friends ! Not sure what's going on but that's an unusual delay.
Have anyone outside of US,have received it? I'm from India, when can I expect to receive it?

I have same language problem and sent emails about the issue but haven't hear anything from them. I am totally disappointed by UI and customer service. I will be extra careful when I buy something from here next time. Does anyone have information about firmware?

What OS were you using ? Some people managed to get update their firmware using windows 7 32bits, it's not working on 64bit apparently. More info here : http://www.head-fi.org/t/679572/ihifi-760-770-pg-13-800-pg-25-from-makers-of-the-812v2-960/240
How do you process return? I really wanna return it but they never reply my email. Could you tell me what you did in order to return? Thank you

What's even more infuriating is that the sound is pretty good. It's just the rest of it is unusable. Even the firmware update seems incompatible.

Mine doesn't seem to recognize either of my microsd cards, the menu isn't fully translated into English, and the text on the interface overlaps. UI is also very laggy, with no way to disable special effects. Seriously unimpressed so far, and I haven't even had a chance to play anything of mine on it.

Listening to flac files on mine hooked up to the Sennheiser HD 598s. Getting pretty clear, detailed sound.
