How would these go for casual listening and gaming? looking for something to replace a home theathre set as they're a bit large for a small room. Or should i go for something else? And if yes, what should i go for. I don't want overly off the top bass. but also the option to turn the bass to eleven.

These are more geared towards Music production/ Mixing / Mastering in a studio environment. They are known for their brutally honest sound and flat frequency response, home listening probably won't be as enjoyable on these as opposed to some warmer near field monitors.
If it's just for home listening and gaming, maybe check out some Hi Fi speakers which will have been purposely tweaked to have really warm low end, full mids and nice bright treble and should have Low/mid/hi nobs on the back to EQ for yourself.

TommitheoneI would second the advice that these are, as is in the name, studio monitors, not home theater speakers. I have the HS8s, and love them, but I use them for near-field monitoring in a studio setting. Off-axis from as little as 10ft away, they lose quite a bit. These are solid monitors for their intended purpose, but may be disappointing as general purpose speakers.

Kerry_MaxwellQuick question. Hows the sound quality in general? I listen to my songs mostly everyday. I usually do enjoy the natural sound and I don't need any excessive bass. I also tend to appreciate the natural sound when I play games or watch movies. Should I join this drop or look for something else?

KITTYI'd look for something classed as "speakers" rather than "monitors" for general listening. The sound quality is excellent for their designed purpose, and I'm sure lots of people use them as general-purpose speakers, but something like the JBL LSR30X is cheaper per pair, and would probably suit your needs just as well or better.

TommitheoneThese would work just fine. People love to buy "flat" headphones meant for "studio use", but for some reason a speaker (OK, a monitor) with the same FR is not OK. If you like a flat FR, go for it.
Truth is these are sold by the thousands. I'm going to guess the vast majority don't end up in studios.
One final thought.. if these are meant for studio-only use, why is a company like Massdrop selling them? Massdrop is not a supplier to professional audio studios - their clientele is a young, mostly male demographic of music enthusiasts, but certainly not professional music producers.
Get yourself a pair.. set 'em up and enjoy!

TommitheoneSmall studio/refefence monitors (paired with a good sub) actually make for an outstanding set of desktop computer speakers! Not only will your casual music listening notice details you never even noticed before, but your gaming sessions will get better and be much more immersive as environmental sounds will jump out at you much more clearly, improving your gameplay (especially in FPSes where noticing small sounds off in the distance clues you in to what other players are doing).
