Also if I got these, what would I need besides these? To get the best quality and good set up connecting these to a computer? Would I need special cables, or would I need an amp or a dac, or what???

T57857451252These Speakers have Balanced XLR and 1/4" inputs. So in order to use them with your computer you'd need some sort of external audio interface that has those types of outputs. Computers don't come stock with these sort of connections. Once you get the audio interface, you'll also need to get the audio cables. There are frequently drops on this website for nice quality audio interfaces that will work with these speakers. Keep an eye out for the FocusRite 2i2, It's relatively inexpensive but nice quality.

Collin_ReeveWouldn't we be able to use something like these?

jasonvelocityTotally, but that would also result in a 6dB drop in volume due to going from balanced to unbalanced with those adapters.
Balanced means that there are two signals per channel: non-inverted + inverted. In an unbalanced setup, what would be the wires carrying the inverted signal are shorted together to passive ground and the equipment that pumps out the signal, like your average computer soundcard, external DAC, or MP3 player, lacks the circuitry for that inverted signal.
So going balanced to unbalanced, there's a difference in the way the signal is done and apparently this causes a 6dB drop in volume. Something like that. So don't be surprised if the speakers seem kind of quiet or you have to crank up the volume more than you would expect..

jasonvelocitythese types of cables will technically get audio to your speakers, but it wont be good quality at all. a standard headphone jack on a computer sends out an unbalanced signal but these studio monitors are meant to receive a balanced signal. So if you are sending them an unbalanced signal through an unbalanced cable like the ones you posted, then there will be a lot of "noise" coming out of your speakers and the audio quality will be a lot lower. and in that case it isnt even worth investing the money in a pair of studio monitors. In order to get the full potential out of the monitors, you need to send them a balanced signal through balanced cables. If you're unfamiliar with the difference between unbalanced and balanced, there is a good article on them here: http://www.aviom.com/blog/balanced-vs-unbalanced/
