variab1eThe Yamahas are definitely better in terms of soundstage and sound quality, however keep in mind these are near field monitors and are designed to output that type of sound with the listener at the focal point of the acoustic triangle you set them up in, which with near fields is usually quite small. If you want to fill a room with nice sound the Pioneers are great and a cheaper alternative if you're only thinking of using the Yamahas as a stereo system instead of using them for reference monitors on your desk. Not to say the Yamahas aren't capable of filling a room with great sound, it's just one is $520 a pair and the other $130 a pair.
