Anyone out there got an opinion on a set of these vs polk audio S50 floor speakers? Seems the frequency response is better on the polks, so I'm surprised to see the cost difference. After the massdrop "drop" the price is about the same.
Also, just want to make sure I understand this right, I could connect the balanced (XLR) pre-amp out of my amp into the HS8S sub, then the balanced out from the sub to these monitors for a 2.1 setup, right?
zypherionThese are reference studio monitors meant for near field mixing. Not really meant to be connected to hi-Fi. This doesn't mean you can't do it. Keep in mind these monitors are descended from the NS8 which have a very flat response.
JzfunkThanks Jzfunk. I tend to prefer a V shape when listening to music in my headphones (which I gather makes me a pleb) but I want to try something nice and flat/reference for a change. Will these fill a medium (9x13) bedroom adequately with the matching sub?
Any standout reason for the price jump from the polks I'm looking at? Is it just the effort put in to get them as neutral as possible? Maybe it's because they are powered, which is desirable for me in my setup?
zypherionYea man these will fill your room with sound. These are not really consumer audio they are pro audio. When I say flat they are . I own a pair . I use them to mix recordings in my studio. They are meant to be very close to your listening position. I feel this needs to be repeated . These are not meant for casual listening. In my opinion they are not audiophile type speakers. They are not much different from the Ns10s I mentioned earlier. Google em .. They where the go to standard back in the 90's for near field monitoring.. You can more than likely go hear them at any big box music store like guitar center or Sam Ash. Below some one mentioned http://frontendaudio.com/. 600.00 for the pair XLR cable and ISO pads. You can pick up the sub there too. If you go with these enjoy them. https://usa.yamaha.com/products/proaudio/speakers/hs_series/index.html
zypherionYou can't compaire HS8 with Polk audio. The HS8 has amp built in it and the polk audio are just speaker without amp and they are not acurate. There is a reason why they cost more of course beside the brand.
