what does the sound quality of these compare to something like a cheaper logitech system z623 or bose companion. I'n sort of a noob when it comes to audio, I'm mainly just looking for something that sounds crisp and full with some decent bass. I know these say studio monitor speakers so does that mean these or more for listening for specific tones and stuff or would these work fine for a pair of nice desktop speakers to play games through and listen to music on
Chidwack3They will be crisp, but they will not be especially bassy. More just accurate. They will sound "as recorded/intended." Otherwise known as "flat" (or no notable deviations in the EQ)
Chidwack3I have had mine for about 2 years. JoldWebb is right they will give you an accurate reflection of what the recording is. I have listened to quite a bit of music with them and they do just fine. If you really need to EQ something then a good pair of headphones is the way to go.
Chidwack3no comparison - the Yamaha product is far superior for professional mastering applications. for Consumer hi fi listening the the Bose Companion are excellent - I'd actually look at Klipsch - they have some computer and gaming systems that are outstanding and extremely reasonable. These are not Stereo Audiophile speakers the Yamaha HS* series are Studio Near Field Monitors - they are not colored and are designed to reflect the sound exactly - so you don't get some of the color although if your recording has a great mix you'll hear a great sound - if the record or recording has a bad mix you'll hear that too. for just listening enjoyment I'd save the cash and go with the Bose Companion or look at Klipsch for the best bang for the buck. Good luck!
