Uh oh. I just ordered a pair of Massdrop's JBL LSR30X speakers. Now we have the Yamaha HS8 for sale. I need a little favor, though...I'm not asking for anyone to offer a thoughtful and well reasoned comparison between the two. I just want someone to validate my purchase. You know, like, " Great speakers, man. You can't get better! You'll love 'em! Ignore those Yamaha HS8s!" Thanks in advance!

sailcatIf you are using these for just listening and media consumption, then I guess stay with the jbl. If you will be doing that, plus mixing/mastering/audio engineering, GET THESE they have a near flat frequency response. these are an excellent pair of monitors, especially at this discount. I auditioned these at a guitar center, and they have low response, and don't really "need" a sub. I hope this helps.

ShattersYeah, I think I will stick with the JBLs...I figure both are good and I already have these ordered. Thanks for your opinion, though! Stay tuned!

sailcatNever doubt the power of the 30X if you were at some point/are still excited for them! I'm with you on the 30X instead of HS8 (for several reasons including space limitation.) Though if you're like me, you'd dream-want both to play with. In seriousness I agree with Shatters in that you'd want to enjoy your JBL for a music listening experience over the HS8. The HS8 is a said legend for flatness in comparison to the JBL which sounds great and enjoyable. If music production is your style then of course the 8 series of either of the two would obviously assist in that work under the right studio environments.

iTetsuThanks! These will be desk speakers and I am not going to be using them for critical listening. I expect either would be a good choice so I can't go wrong!

sailcatI received it in perfect condition yesterday and I have to say, even with hearing the HS8 and Rokkit 6 at a music store, I can stand firmly behind that these LSR30X speakers are insane. Especially knocks the socks, everything off my "THX Certified" Logitech 2.1 system I was using for a side TV.

sailcatI think either set you mentioned are find speakers - JBL and YAMAHA are both great - however YAMAHA does not honor the warranty if you purchase them through Massdrop (not sure about JBL) I purchased the HS8's last year and this year one of the power supplies if failing and I just discovered that YAMAHA will not honor a proof of purchase through Massdrop - so I'd stick to the small items they sell (sunglasses and usb ports) I'm a professional audio guy (VO and Producer) and I'm never buying anything substantial through this venue again because they don't specify you can't get Warranty support. (again maybe it's just Yamaha but I don't think so) But back to your question - Yamaha HS series are the most popular in studio near field monitor applications - really excellent but you chose two of the best out there so you probably could do great with either one. Just buy them from an authorized dealer - they usually come pretty close in pricing and in some cases provide rebates. AND WARRANTIES.

CHIB67JBL should be honoring the 30X series warranty unlike the Yamaha drops because the Yamaha drops are not contracted in the same way the JBL custom drop was. I bought the JBL in consideration the details included official JBL warranty in the USA for 3 years

iTetsuYes they will as will other suppliers - however it's best to send an email to the manufacturer or someone in purchasing. However I think it would be more important that they state that the drop does NOT include the manufacturer warranty rather than just state nothing. Deception through ommission is not a good business practice. I will continue to purchase certain items through Massdrop but nothing related to how I make my living. It took four weeks for them to provide me a resolution and it involves paying for shipping to send the defective unit back to the vendor. In the end I still have two unwarrantable monitors. So I'm glad you checked and that JBL will provide a warranty - they are really great monitors!
