I am concerned that the listing may be misleading as it is for all intents and purposes a tube buffer by the manufacturer and is not actually an amplifier unless you consider a 500mw output an amplifier. I have used a vintage tube buffer 25 years ago and it does help the harshness of digital signals but the listing still bothers me.

NexbruceI think the digital artifacts from 25 years ago have been largely eliminated, rendering this class of device useless, unless you have a 25 year old rig.

pshanks01Truth stranger than fiction. I've got 4 rigs at two residences that go back nearly 25 years each with unique characteristics. Lately , another audiophile colleague of mine has enamoured himself with vintage turntables and will wager his enjoyment of the source over the digital counterpart in his system that includes a CD player that costs him nearly $3K two years ago. Things do run in circles.

NexbruceRe: analog vs digital - I wish I could find the article that I read some years ago explaining why vinyl is often preferred over digital. The premise is that vinyl can store high frequency data that lies outside the range of human hearing, but the interference patterns can contain spatial information and these artifacts are audible. The magical intersection of good engineering (e.g. a Rudy Van Gelder or Lewis Layton), early generation stamper, quality turntable/arm/cartridge, good amplification and good speakers will reveal spatial artifacts beyond the simple right/left channels of stereo. I have experienced this for myself, and even mono vinyl recordings can contain spatial elements of depth and height. It may only be illusion, but then every recording is an illusion anyway. (My reference rig at the time was a stock Rega Planar 3 tt, Audible Illusions Modulus 3 pre, a pair of Dynaco Mark 4 monoblocks and a biwired pair of Vandersteen 2c speakers.)
In contrast, digital recordings were capped just above the upper limit of normal human hearing, and much of that spatial information is simply missing. The digital nasties of early gen recordings are pretty much gone, but no amount of trickery will restore the magic.

pshanks01Amen to that! Best I had were von schweikert vr4s, golden tube class a amps in monoblock, audible illusion 3a and VPI tt loaded. Digital is getting closer but not quite there yet. Best audiophile proverb. Old audiophile safe from Japan says CD is a lot of dots, sacd is better due to smaller dot. But vinyl is best due to straight line. Lol

Should I exchange the PC38X for better headphones?
I bought the PC38X headphones FOR GAMING and they are great, but I have NO use for a Microphone since I don't do competitive gaming and I was wondering if there were better headphone options at a similar price without a headphone, where (presumably) more of the cost was put into making it sound better. I also find that my PC38X don't get quite as loud as I would like and I was wondering if a cheap amp like the iFi Go link would draw a little more volume out of my phones. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BN6MM822?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I went with the PC38X since it was considered the best bang for buck headphones. Looking for a gaming/content audio setup
Hello! I'm looking for recommendations on audio setups. I'd be planning on using it mostly for gaming. Preferably I'd like a pair of large closed back headphones since I have a big head and jaw. I'd also like to hear myself through my mic with mic monitoring. As far as budget goes, I don't really have one. But under 600$ would be nice. I can go higher if needed. The audio setup would be connected to a high performance PC. Thank you in advance for any recommendations!

$10 Drop Coupon Email not sent?

Hello, I just joined, primarily for the audiophile products. Looking at purchasing the NHT C3 speakers for our new living room. Space is about 15 feet wide by 33 long and they will fire long ways. Space is just for general listening, music room with all equipment is downstairs, so hoping they will fill it with sound nicely. Cheers.
