How about $100 1.2kg freestanding double walled 2 person tent from Naturehike at AliExpress? Can't imagine ppl on "PCT" with this thing. This isn't even a "regular light" backpacking tent these days. Not to mention this isn't even a 3 seasons tent, which should have about half of inner tent solid.
Massdrop, keep putting these shits and you will loose UL shopper's faith real fast.
How about start putting more real UL stuffs from Gossamer or Zpacks?
JwalcheI'm not sure what you're point is about the AliExpress tent. Your inflammatory statement was about this not being UL. Well, it's not listed in the Ultralight Community - it is in the Outdoors Community. We do work with Zpacks, ULA, EE, Black Rock Gear, Lawson Equip, Seek Outside, Lukes Ultralite, Borah Gear and more.
DannyMilksProbably nothing can be done with the maker's brand name. But at least can't something be done with the item's misleading title? That way I would have realized that it was indeed not in the Ultralight Community. "PCT" "UL" Tent. It seems I am not the only one who was misled and disappointed here.
Nothing designed by this maker remotely backs up its claim of " we dream of developing weightless equipment.” It's all lies.
Jwalche@DannyMilks Brand creates the product name. I don't think MD would get away with changing it.
There are people for whom this tent will work well. Maybe it's not for you. That's fine. Different strokes, eh?
SawatchFactory I have not quarrel with their product quality or price. However their misleading brand/product names, coupled with Massdrop's well established handling of decent UL gears, confused me even though it was listed under outdoors category. It rubbed me the wrong way and I felt cheated.
SawatchFactoryThe only reason I am seeing this product and invested in reading specification was that it was on MD. Korean hiking gears are notoriously heavy weighted and I wouldn't care for them if it was not on a reputed U.S. site. They backpack with 100+ lbs packs for 3 miles before setting up their tents on clean wooden decks and call it lightweight back country camping. I don't.
JwalcheYou really need to get over yourself. Your comments are entirely self-congratulatory...unfortunately, that's the norm with most weight-weenies.
This tent is exactly what it is and not trying to be nor is it being touted as anything that it is not. (ok, maybe 4-season is pushing it, but it's clear what you're getting here.)
JwalcheI guess I don't understand how you'd feel this isn't worthy of "light" or "ultralight". Sure, there are lighter options but 3.5 pounds or even 4 pounds, used for two people, is 2lbs or less per person. Totally doable for a UL kit. For a solo person, notsomuch.
