All the keyboards at Massdrop headquarters must have the C and P keys worn out from all the copying and pasting from drop to drop. The products change but the descriptions are fossilized in place from the very first drop. The laziness and casual lack of give a shit on display is absolutely remarkable and is borderline customer-hostile. One is forced to ask, am I viewed internally within Massdrop as a complete and irrevocable idiot? Or are the people producing these listings and their descriptions best described that way?
This is the second recent drop for Zhen Katsura series knives, and while not as chock full of errors as the first one, it's still a bit of a dog's breakfast of different blade and handle materials lumped together in a single drop with inadequate descriptions and nothing much other than the Katsura branding tying them all together.
First drop can be found here by the way: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/zhen-katsura-japanese-knife-series
Not all of the knives are VG-10 with Damascus cladding, and there is no mention of what the 'high carbon steel' knives are actually made of. I seem to recall that the 4 knife set which was also 'secretly' available in the first Katsura drop had 440C stainless blades, but I only know that because someone from Massdrop posted a link to Amazon in the discussion area to illustrate what was actually being sold!
What are the sizes of the knives in the 2-piece Damascus set? For the price it seems like a no brainer over the Santoku by itself if the two Santokus are the same size.
What's the size and what is the steel used in the 2-piece carving set?
All of these questions should have been answered in the drop description!
JaggiI don’t even see the sets listed in the checkout screen or on the Drop itself. And there are two different styles of wood handle but they seem to be called the same thing with the same model number. And none of the listed options says it’s carbon instead of Damascus. I’m not a big knife person but would LOVE to upgrade to a great Zhen knife. But this drop is so confusing and inaccurate that I’ll orobably pass.
