I want people before they comment that its a rip of another cap to think about this. Is it really artistic to take something from nature and copy it almost 1:1?
There a lot of up in arm's over this cap being a copy of another from a well known artisan that has done some amazing work. I am sorry taking something as simple as a cat paw which is found on every cat since the begin of time. mating it to a key cap. Is not artistic. It is cool it looks nice and its fun.. fugu thats artistic, Kosmonavt some of the most amazing artisan's ever.
Saying something as ambiguous as a cat paw can be used with almost no modification as exclusive is just plan stupid. I bet some of the same people would agree with apples claim they patented rounded corners on electronic devices. Cause there phone had rounded corners so it must be unique and not just a function of natural design.

HotRoderX"with almost no modification"
Yep, they just cut the paw off a cap and threw it on a keyboard.
You're ridiculous, you sure chose a good hill to die upon.

pwade3I can give a great example i am sure you say this is a rip from the keycap cause its almost a direct copy of the design.

That is a mug! I am sure the designer didn't rip off anyone else design. Just the design in question is so simple. O will logic has no place in some peoples worlds

HotRoderXEh, I let it run its course, as this will always happen: people believe they own a trademark without even knowing what a trademark is or how they work. No different than people proclaiming any keycap with a skull is somehow ripping off Murrays, as if anyone can own such a basic idea.
I suppose I'll reiterate here for those wanting to keep posting: Without a patent (invention), trademark (design), or copyright (wording), nobody 'owns' anything. No declarations of doing it first entitles anyone to anything.

HotRoderXWell you see, the big difference there is that these are both keycaps, whereas that's a mug, you mug.

HotRoderXYou seem to be misinterpreting the situation I feel.
I don't think anyone here (at least I know for a fact me, LSB and @tokyocoffeenerd definitely aren't) is saying Kudos and Koala should have exclusive rights to cat paw key caps. What I (we) am saying is that for Massdrop as a reputable business to be seemingly endorsing this is questionable regardless of whether or not you personally agree with the moral compass being we are attempting to hold up - this is why we are trying to make the general public aware of the situation so that they can judge and assess the situation for themselves and buy (or not) accordingly.
We're not here to shit on Zomo, they actually make some pretty cool caps and are obviously pretty skilled at what they do. I'm sure their PUBG caps would sell wonderfully on here for example, probably better than this will for more reasons than just the integrity of this design.
KK are some of the nicest, most genuine people in this community and are widely loved by everybody I know, they're also incredibly skilled and this may potentially kill the chances of Massdrop working with them in the future on something much more interesting and novel (using part of your argument here) than a cat's paw BUT IN ALUMINIUM.
If this is a risk Massdrop is willing to take in order to sell like 100 of these for 32 dollars a pop from someone whose repertoire consists of other designs that actually are their own (to the best of my knowledge) and that would probably bring out far larger numbers then that's a decision they should consciously make.

HotRoderXDid you make these keycaps? I don't understand why you are going so hard at this. Seems to be a direct rip off, in terms of the mold and color scheme. And to counter your argument, anyone could paint starry night but van gogh was the artist that created the spiral stars and paint that appears to be swimming in the sky. In the same sense, KK designed a paw with opposing colors and a cap shape that is really the exact same as this one. I would be willing to bet that this company scanned the KK cap and cnc'ed based off that. It is just too close a match man.

HotRoderXWhile this cap is "different" in its subtleties to KK's design, it's really about the thought that counts. In this community, you can't use the argument "but you're making a Cherry-profile keyset, so in effect, it's the same thing! A cat's paw is from nature!" You're barking up the wrong tree. Those companies who remake Cherry sets do so based on demand and to offer something not actively produced for us as a community to enjoy; different color combos, plastic variations, etc. It's about *honoring* the original design/profile. If Cherry was a community icon and made tons of custom sets to become something like SP, then GMK might not be so sought after. Catch my drift?
You seem awfully defensive of this cap, maybe because you jumped in and joined right away or something. You're missing the point, though. Zomo could've chosen to use ANY design, but they chose a cat paw. In aluminum. That looks like an artisan that KK put out. This community is about the effort, it's niche and deservedly so. We enjoy and respect artisans, boards, and keysets for the effort, skill, and attention put into those products. Something relatively low-effort like this cap understandably receives negative feedback from those of us that are serious to some degree about this community.
