I am thrilled to work with Zpacks on bringing you one of the most highly recommended, most sought-after tents available today. The Duplex sets the bar for amount of protected, livable space in such a light, compact package. This is very highly rated in numerous polls and I get personal requests all the time to make this happen. So here it is finally!
A few notes on this drop: 1) The Discount - This comes up frequently with many American-based cottage companies that sell directly to the customer. They simply don't have a large margin built in, so any discount they offer is based on efficiencies gained from working with us. It may not be the 30-50% discount you may see on many of our other drops, but 7% is still better than 0%.
2) Join the Group. Or don't. - If you want a different fabric or color or setup, then I recommend you go straight to zpacks.com to order. They're a great company to work with and will be happy to accommodate you like every other satisfied customer. However please don't bug them for the Massdrop price - you either join the group buy and get our price, or you are a normal customer of theirs. You can't have your cake and eat it too. I unfortunately have to make this explicit because I have heard back from other ultralight cottage companies that a few of our members have been trying to get the best of both worlds through various means.
3) Cuben Fiber - Yes, I'm very aware that this has gone through a rebranding and is now called Dyneema Composite Fibers, however that name is too new for most people to know, and too long to roll of the tongue. So we intentionally kept the old name in our tent description.
4) This is not the tent for everyone. It is very pricey, requires trekking poles to set up, and is made of a material that needs to be cared for properly. However, my friends who own this exact tent absolutely love it and use it all the time. At 21 oz it's hard to beat for such a roomy 2-person shelter.

DannyMilksHey Danny, nice job scoring this from zpacks!
Yeah, only a 20 dollar savings, but given zpacks pretty much never offers discounts on the duplex, this is crazy rare.
Here is my review of the duplex, for anybody looking for a review: https://hikelighter.com/2015/02/28/zpacks-duplex-tent/
I have owned two Duplex shelters (one camo, one aluminized cf) and a SolPlex in 0.51, and I think three Hexamid's, and three Pocket (0.34 cf) tents, and one rectangle 0.34 cf tarp, all from zpacks, that all combined together have over 1500+ days of on-trail use. They are truly exceptional three season shelters. The Duplex is the second lightest two person shelter currently on the market - the zpacks hexamid twin beats the duplex in weight, but the duplex at only another ~2oz, provides *significantly* better wet-weather protection.
Check out this spreadsheet that I attempt to maintain that lists the lightest of the lightest 2p shelters: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fmbgH0AkbZR0rxAUh5cpXXqkXx1of618TKs9bNFMlNU/edit#gid=837677714
For a great video overview of the Duplex check out this video from AT/PCT thru-hiker 'Redbeard' (currently off-trail and working for zpacks):

As for the "noise" of rain and cuben fiber... some of us actually LOVE the sound, check out this SoundCloud recording while inside the zpacks solplex on a lovely rainy night here in the Redwoods of Northern California: https://soundcloud.com/johnabela/rain-cuben-fiber
The Duplex is great for a solo hiker and a solo+pet and two small sized hikers. The triplex is great for two larger size folks and/or those who like to carry the "wide" (25 inch) sleeping pads. The SolPlex is great for a solo hiker that needs just enough room to sleep in plus a tiny bit of wiggle room - I have waited out 12 hour storms inside the SolPlex, but it was not fun. But done it too many times to count inside of a Duplex, and while that is not really all that fun either, having the extra room kinda helps justify the extra weight, price, and pack volume for the larger Duplex.
Anyway, yeah Danny, nice job getting zpacks on board with a duplex discount!

DannyMilksI was waiting for that drop and as you said a small discount is better than none. Comparing Zpack's offer to MD's: it's 50$ cheaper including shipping to my home country... I can get a few extra trekking accessories for 50 bucks... :) Hopefully the Zpacks parcel will be stealth enough to go through the custom... Damn VAT... it's a gamble but there is nothing I can do about it. Cheers Danny!

abelaThanks @abela for adding so much to the discussion. The crew at Zpacks is great and I'm psyched to work with them. Hopefully the success of this drop leads us to more partnerships in the future!

DannyMilksWill go in my piggy bank for a Triple Zero sleeping bag... pretty much as expensive as the Duplex tent... Could be interesting for you to have a look at their products ranges: high-end quality down, light, design by and for outdoors fanatics... small production but great products for mountaineers, trekkers and hikers... Same spirt as Zpacks too some extends... http://www.triplezero.fr/eng/sleeping-bags-duvets.php
