Thanks SwimJay ! I really don't see it as having a problem, but having the right gear
according to my expedition, hike or adventure. The 1st and foremost, I have 4
daughters and 10 grand-kids of all ages, I take on many adventures of all sorts,
6 grand daughters with special needs like privacy, showers, etc., 4 grand sons,
that are wide open and always ready for paw-paw's next adventure.
Yep ! no problem here, just a lot of gear eval and fun !
I am 59, almost retired computer scientist and I buy whatever I want
now that my 4 daughters are finished with school, college, weddings, etc.
and diggin in my back pocket !
Survivalist7I am talking with Zpacks about running this drop again, and asking them if we can include the Triplex as an optional upgrade. Thanks for the suggestion! @Survivalist7@DropbearAT
DannyMilksHey Danny, people should look at the minimal extra weight (2.8oz) verses size difference for $100 more, it is certainly the winner! The duplex floor area is 28.1 sq feet verses 37.5 sq feet.
The Zpacks Triplex Tent is more of an unknown diamond in the flooded field of lightweight tents because it is rated for 3 people and most people backpack solo or with 1 other person and decide on the smaller duplex and really don't take time to think it thru. The TRIPLEX is huge !!!
I have plenty of pictures if you would like to post for Zpacks Triplex Drop, I have had the Triplex over
a year and have a lot of useful data such as field repair, snow, wind and rainy conditions usage. My Triplex is customized, meaning I had 1.43oz Cuben Fiber for floor as opposed to 1oz CF which is
more abrasion resistant and little tougher and the top is a .67oz Camo CF.
Raptelan, I really do like the thicker floor, gives me a more sound mind,
however, 1st I ALWAYS clear/clean the ground where I put my tent.
2nd I ALWAYS use a 7oz thick footprint under my TRIPLEX and for that matter,
i do this for all of my 25 tents.
Yeah ya right ! Zpacks is the best cottage gear builder in the industry offering
customized gear and a reasonable price. As I read in your previous post about
the BA UL2 Scout tent....its a great little tent, however, it does not offer the same
benefits as Cuben Fiber such as not retaining water making a tent heavier from
water weight....I simply just wipe my TRIPLEX down and pack it up.
Also, as per your post, TRIPLEX is expensive, but if you are a long distance
hiker, measuring weight is so important, my personal belief is
BY ONCE, CRY ONCE !
Hey Raptelan, The reasons for 25 tents, #1 I am a 40 year
South Louisiana Survivalist, #2 I am a serious Gear Junky, #3 I have 4
daughters and 10 grand-kids of all ages, I take on many adventures of all sorts,
6 grand daughters with special needs like privacy, showers, etc., 4 grand sons,
that are wide open and always ready for paw-paw's next adventure.
Please don't take this as if I am bragging, I am a very humble person that
God has blessed ! God blesses stupid people ! and I am one !
DannyMilksWhen I received the tent it had bright orange guy lines.
Yeah Spider like for sure! that's Lawson's Reflective Line - Helps me find my campsite
at nite when out in the swamps of Louisiana or just damn lost cuz I can't help it ! Only problem is they are black with white tracers and even in the day time, I still trip over the damn guy lines...hence the word Stealth. My buddy was far off in the swamp trying to
find me, when he saw the glowing lines, he almost shot it, cause it scared the hell out him.
