This is such an utterly mad idea it's almost a special kind of genius. I want to know what the inventor was smoking when he decided these were two functions crying out to be combined. The spring-loaded glass-breaker plunger is also the base power contact for the USB charger ... what could POSSIBLY go wrong?

I don't know, what exactly?

UnixRonin23 lbs is a lot of trigger force. I don't think you are going to push it into the outlet hard enough to trigger it

CabezonEven then, it'd be impossible to activate the breaker when the cigarette plug is all the way in... I don't think they've used a breaker before.

UnixRoninThe glass breaker plunger is not the contact surface for the chargers. Did you even look at it? There are metal strips on the exterior portion that contact the current distributing portion of the cigarette lighter. The glass breaking plunger is completely contained inside the device.

UnixRoninAre you worried about breaking the glass at the bottom of your cigarette lighting port?
If so, don’t worry! Glass isn’t conductive and isn’t at the base of any cigarette port!
It’s like worrying about your knife cutting through your cutting board. You have to push really hard to do it. A few times. Intentionally.

Cyn1cHeh. No, I am well aware there's no glass in an automotive 12V socket. But aside from the sheer mad-science idea of combining these functions in a single device in the first place, I've often had difficulty getting accessories to make good contact in a 12V socket. I don't know how much force it takes to trigger the glassbreaker action — @Cabezon mentioned 23lb — but I imagine if one *did* manage to trigger this thing in the socket, it wouldn't be good for the socket, and that could be expensive to repair.

UnixRoninI triggered it in my old car's 12V socket one time because I was being an idiot and there were no negative side effects. I can't tell you what would happen if this occurred multiple times though.
