This has nothing to do with advertising and marketing.  Obviously if Massdrop was trying to "market" them they would not even list the original MSRP as it means nothing.    A brand new 1969 Mustang probably had a MSRP of under $5K ..  I dont think you will find anyone selling pristine versions of that car for anywhere near that price either.
1) Magic cards are Collectibles..  2) Collectibles go up and down in value based on Supply and Demand...

There are no really significant differences between a ~$80 knife and more expensive ones. There may be a slightly smoother action, less blade play or more fancy steel and handle materials. But mostly you're paying for collectible value and bragging rights. Just like for clothes, cars etc.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, and if I had too much money I'd certainly consider buying some of the great items that are out there. Or here.   😊

Outstanding thread and video, thanks for that link, Tom! Becker knives have always been contracted out to major manufacturers, Camillus being the last one before Ka-Bar took over.  My BK-9 Combat Bowie is a Camillus-manufactured knife which I've seen examples of sell for more than 100% over MSRP of the current Ka-Bar offerings, not because Camillus was a better manufacturer necessarily, but because there's collector's value in any line of knives that was highly popular when a contracted supplier...
