They actually are not 100% leak-proof but it is not a big issue. If you leave the pen without use for some time, it is possible that a very small and quite dry blob will form on the tip. It is also easy to clean. On the other hand, it is also easy to make your fingers or shirt dirty if you do not notice and take care. As of the bullet pen, which is capped, it also makes dirty the inside of the cap.
