What was your Ah ha! moment in becoming an Audiophile?
My moment was when i went to a HF meetup (before it became CES) and got to audition all the different types of headphones and gear - Stax, AKG1000, hybrid planars, R10's, L3000's, buffalo DAC, moths, blue hawaiians, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I didn't actually like the things that i read were good. I learned to trust my own ears first. My 2nd moment was when i built my own CMOY (RIP btw) based on reading threads and viewing...

Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350 Audiophile Headphones
Just about all of them from one time to another - the Sennheiser HD580, HD600, HD650,HD598, HD598, HD558 Beyerdynamic 770, 880, 990, Sony V6, V7, 7506, HiFiman 400S, Grado SR60, Sr80, SR125, SR225, Philips Fidelio X1 & X2. Koss Porta Pro 4AA, Pro 4S, Koss Phase /2 . 0It's my experience that sometimes I will put on a pair of headphones and think I don't like the sound but if I continue to listen for a while on different types of music,...

Shure SRH 940 Audiophile Headphone
I prefer the Shure SRH 940 by a long shot to the K701 and, by extension, to the SRH840 and certainly the K550. It is astoundingly very linear with a hair of excitement of 1 to 2 decibels of treble in the 8 to 14 kHz range and a slight dip in the lower bass by 3-4 decibels starting from 50 Hz to 20 Hz. Unless you are bass fiend or preferences lie with an artistically warm sound, these are some of the best headphones under $1000. Bear in mind...

Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE4XX Planar Magnetic Headphones
Sitting here listening to mine from the last drop, which arrived a few days ago... haven't had a lot of headphone time. But based on a few hours of listening - after running them attached to my headphone amp/dac for about a day and a half with all kinds of music at above mid volume, in case there is break in required, before really listening - here's what I think.
These are lovely to listen to with the right music. I've listened to jazz of...

Massdrop x AKG K7XX Audiophile Headphones
Received mine. SN 1274. No rattle. Overall, I am enjoying these. Spacious soundstage, and a very smooth sound signature. A really nice pairing to go with my Grado SR325i and Beyerdynamic DT 770 Premiums (600 ohms). The K7xx have easily kicked my AT AD700s to the curb. However, the build quality is just okay. I believe Massdrop/AKG should have made it known that these were going to be made in China and that a few other details of the headphones...

Grado Prestige Series SR60e Headphones
I have the Turtle Beach PX51 wireless headset. I don't have any Grados yet, so I'm comparing against the closed-back studio monitor Audio Technica ATH-M40fs. Rather than market the M40fs, this comparison is just to point out some of the limitations of the Turtle Beach gaming headsets compared to studio monitors, even ones nearly half the price. (Currently the M40fs is around 70 USD; the PX51 is about 119 USD.)
Although the wireless convenience...

Are Enthusiast Products Expenses or Assets?
Intro 2008 was a great year for me. I graduated 8th grade, played ~1000 hours of TF2 (I'm an accredited hat investor), and fell down the headphone rabbit hole. As a 13 year old, funding was the major issue, and Head-Fi's Buy/Sell/Trade section was m...

SMSL M6 DAC/Amp
Just received my M6 from the last drop. I installed on my old Dell XP machine I use as a music server and I am quite impressed. The installation was very easy once i pointed to the small included CD in my drive during the initial USB installation, and everything was ready to go on the Foobar I was already running; even the generic ASIO driver needed for the 192k sample rate files I have.
Drives everything I have tried thus far from...

Little Dot I+ Headphone Amp
No one really knows, even the designer of this amp stated that it is around 32 ohms, which contradicts the spec because it says suitable for headphones in 8-600 ohms range. Normally you need 1/8th of the headphones you use to be stable, but some cans can do better with not so low output impedance. If you are going to use it with IEMs, may be get the O2 instead, but the 32 ohm grados will do fine.
