So I just got a spyderco calypso jr. sprint run with super blue steel. I've wanted a super blue knife for a while and was very excited to receive this. Every spyderco knife I own has great fit and finish, so to say disappointed is a massive understatement. The blade is so off center it is almost touching the plastic frn scale(no stainless steel liners). To make things worse I can't adjust it because this knife has a rivet for the fulcrum. No possible was to adjust or disassemble. I didn't even know spyderco did this. I also thought the sprint run knives were supposed to be of the highest quality due to the limited numbers. I was wrong!! And one last thing when the blade is open the lockbar doesn't sit flush with the blade. One positive the knife is sharp.

Gunnersmate2Where'd you pick that up? New or used? I hear there's lots of spyderco fakes out there, any thoughts as to if that might be the case here?

KavikNew from a person I've bought from before. I thought the same about it being a fake but after research I'm fairly sure it's real. Just in case I've contacted spyderco to verify. Waiting on a reply.

Gunnersmate2So, what happens when you try to turn the torx screw that screws into the rivet?
Also, which model is that, that comes with super blue steel? There must be only a few models with that kind of steel.

DougFLA123There is no screw. Just a rivet. The only screws on this knife are for the pocket clip.

Gunnersmate2The picture makes it look like there’s something to grab, like a torx screw, through the pocket clip hole. I have several Spyderco’s with that smooth rivet on one side and a torx screw on the other side through the pocket clip hole. I always assumed an adjustment could be made. Is the rivet on your knife smooth on both sides?

DougFLA123My kiwi 4 has what your talking about. One side looks like a smooth rounded rivet head but the other has a torx screw.

Gunnersmate2I don’t think Spyderco does rivets on their knives anymore, at least not on their new models. It seems like such a small savings for them to go rivet instead of torx screw! They would probably save a couple of pennies per knife using the rivet, unless they just didn’t want people taking them apart to clean and adjust them.

DougFLA123A quick google shows quite a few people complaining about this rivet pivot on this knife (and a couple others), and blade not centering. Advice on the spyderco forums tend to say you can try peening it yourself, but they you should really just send it in to Spyderco for adjustments

DougFLA123Mine too it makes me 😡🤯 I've emailed spyderco and waiting for a reply. I'm trying to get them to do a handle upgrade to G10 or carbon fiber at my expense of course

Gunnersmate2The Dragonfly also has a smooth rivet-like surface on one side and a torx screw on the other side. I hope the torx screw can be removed if needed.

Gunnersmate2That’s good to know. Did you have to apply pressure to that smooth side with your thumb to keep it from spinning around or is it held in place by something internally? Love that British racing green!

DougFLA123Spyderco emailed me today and said that if I wanted to replace the handle I would have to go through aftermarket sources. I'm going to start a warranty claim and try to get them to address the shoddy workmanship. I'll keep you posted with any developments. I'm disappointed beyond words with this knife.

Gunnersmate2The Calypso Jr reminds me a little of the Delica 4...very similar dimensions. It’s too bad they didn’t just put blue steel on some sprint run delicas. Delica‘s do have a torx screw on the pivot and stainless steel liners for extra strength.

DougFLA123So spyderco's warranty/repair department emailed me expressing sympathy for my disappointment and said to send the knife in and they will do everything they can to fix the issues. So I guess I'm spending $15 more (for shipping) for this knife, with no guarantee it will be any better.

Gunnersmate2I think replacing the handle is the only way I'll be satisfied with this knife. Having said that I'm curious to see what spyderco will do to fix it. So I will spend the money for shipping and hope spyderco's warranty/repair service department has higher quality control standards then the production shop.

Gunnersmate2Maybe include a note asking if it’s possible for them to remove the rivet and replace it with a torx screw pivot.

Gunnersmate2I searched BladeHQ for folding knives made with blue steel blades and other than the one Spyderco Calypso Jr, the rest are all Nagao Higonokami Friction Folders.

DougFLA123Spyderco did not replace or fix the knife. They offered to destroy the knife and give me a 50% coupon code for any new knife, off their website. I already get 50% off because of my veteran status so I had them ship the knife back. I wasn't impressed with Spyderco's warranty/repair.

KavikYa I wasn't impressed. I'm going to drill out and replace the fulcrum with a torx barrel and screw. I'm hoping that will give some lateral adjustment. I would love to find an aftermarket handle and hardware for the Calypso jr. for sale.

DougFLA123Like you and I know Spyderco's website is insane to buy from at msrp. 50% off is where most everyone who sells spyderco knives is at. So their offer of destroying my knife and giving me 50% off was, imo, ludicrous
