A place to talk knives

more_vert
So I and others are guilty of taking over the discussions on the knife drops with questions and general sharing of knives that have nothing to do with the drop. While I never mean to cause frustration to other members I believe I have. I like to talk about knives, I love seeing others knives and getting to know all the great people subscribed to the blades forum. So here is a place to share talk and post whatever. Thanks.

Massdrop just sent me a new promo email for "Your Starter guide for 2019". Any of you guys get this email? Anyways, I couldn't help but notice that the image contains a noticeably Tashi design....seen below. Looks remarkably like the Heatseeker custom model he was working on last year.

Did anyone else have issues with up and down blade play on the bood smoke cm1? Had to return mine, ordered another, but couldn't get it in the color I wanted anymore, and I'm a little worried it is an issue inherent in the design, maybe due to the long blade putting a lot of leverage on the carbon fiber scale. Been hearing whispers about it here and there, but nothing to confirm my worries yet.

Hey guys, By now, you've might have seen the Caswell Morphing Karambit on Kickstarter earlier last year. CPM 3V blade and 7075 T6 Aluminum/Type 3 Hard Anodize handle. Designed by Caswell, produced by Millit @ $450 (Kickstarter/Preorder price), and @$650 retail price. (GIF of it in action here: https://ksr-ugc.imgix.net/assets/020/503/839/f3841f8c36c14491d8359f3801ca827c_original.gif?ixlib=rb-1.1.0&w=680&fit=max&v=1520639314&auto=format&gif-q=50&q=92&s=f73d39606cecad28edc6132894e0f060)

It's been since announced that a production version, the CRKT Provoke is slated for release this month @ $200 (https://www.bladehq.com/item--CRKT-Provoke-Kinematic-Folding--92383 ) Personally, I'm a huge fan of the design (it really is unique and functional engineering at it's best), but man is it pricey. IMO, $200 is way too much for D2 blade with aluminum handles, not to mention that I've been less than impressed with CRKT knives I've handled in the past. As for the original, I think $450 is already a lot though somewhat justified. Millit made, tons of complicated precision-made parts, Joe's name attached to it. But @ $650, that's a much tougher pill to swallow.  What do you guys think of the design, custom version, production version?
(Edited)
BknguyenIt is very intricate design and I'm sure the tolerances involved are very tight. If CRKT manages to pull that off for $200 I will be gobsmacked. Even in D2 and aluminum I think it is a bargain if it works properly. Unfortunately, based on past performance, I'm pretty sure CRKT will not be able to pull this off well, but I hope they prove me wrong. I'm sure the Millit pieces are/will be great, but that's more than most are willing to spend on a knife. It's absolutely not something I would buy or carry, but an ingenious and innovative design. I hope this is just the start of great ideas to come from the designer.

NotsurewhyibotherAgreed, I wouldn't carry this. Personally, I find karambits too close to weapons rather than tools despite their origin as tools. Caswell's a great designer/maker with some sweet customs. Check out the EDX and it's disappearing clip!

I got a Bestech made, Isham designed flipper for Christmas. It is the Reticulan with grey titanium and a Damascus blade. This is a small but really well made knife that is near perfect. The blade is centered the detent is great and the action feel like its assisted. Great little knife. It was purchased off Ebay from White Mountain Knives, an authorized Bestech dealer. Happy New Years.

I love receiving knives in the mail but hate sending them away. Just shipped my Spyderco calypso jr. sprint run with super blue steel back to spyderco due to , imo , sub par craftsmanship. The blade was horribly off center and the blade and lockbar are misaligned when open. I also just shipped my Tops mini scandi 4.0 back to tops because the blade grind was noticeably different side to side. Tops customer service representative was awesome. I emailed a few pictures and within minutes they responded with a new knife (minus my cost for shipping the old one to them). I have no idea what spyderco is going to do regarding the calypso since is a sprint run knife but I will let everyone know what the outcome is. Thanks for letting me share my recent loss. Lol.

Gunnersmate2I’m very interested in hearing about this Spyderco Calypso Jr. I’m hoping that if they can’t fix the problems, they send you a new one!

The ZT 0456 is arguably the best tuned production knife made. It is so smooth I keep thinking the fulcrum screw is loose, but it's not. The detent is, imo perfect and the lockbar functions perfectly. It's so smooth it crazy. If you have never held or used one I highly recommend doing so. This knife has redefined what a smooth knife is.

Gunnersmate2It’s one of my favorite ZT’s too. I own the gray titanium and the black wash one and they’re both incredible! They just came out with a sprint run ZT 0456CF...Carbon fiber handle and CPM-20CV steel.

So I got a leatherman charge titanium multi tool and have to say I'm really impressed with it. It has S30V blade steel and although I'm not a multi tool guy I do carry this in my pack and it has been useful on bicycling, hiking and fishing outings.

There are a few things we do well in Oregon, making knives and brewing beer. Lol A friend gave me that leatherman as a gift. I believe he had owned it for a few years but never used it. He is another addict to all things sharp.

To all veterans and active duty personnel, Happy Veterans Day and thank you for your service and sacrifice. To any vet struggling with any aspect of life please contact your local VA. The White City SORCC VA in Oregon saved my life. It was hard to ask for help but as soon as I did my life started changing for the better. It didn't happen overnight and I'm still actively involved with the VA but a better life, a happy and purpose driven life is possible.

I have another Two Sun knife to share with everyone. This is the TS68. This knife is a front flipper, titanium handled M390 blade steel riding on caged bearings. My initial impression is it is well worth the $43 I spent on it. The action is suprising smooth and has a nice detent. On the close up picture of the blade I'm trying to show the polished ramp for the detent ball. A nice detail to ease closing. Everything seems cosher with this knife and I highly recommend this brand for the price.

The TS68 is ok. It is a front flipper with a strong detent and really stiff lockbar. It's really stubby so everything feels real stiff. Oh and the pocket clip is almost unusable. For the money I paid I'm glad I got it but don't feel comfortable recommending it. ( if that makes sense. The geometry of the knife is not great and I think its amplified by the small size.) For the price I'd say go ahead and get it. It's a stout little knife and the blade grind makes it the best slicer of all the twosun knives. Sorry it took me so long to answer, if you can call the post an answer lol
