DSA or SA???

more_vert
Now in the market, we can get some types of keycaps profile, someone like OEMs, someone like cherry profile, but many many keycapshead will choose DSA or SA by Signature Plastics, I am a rookie of SP and hope somebody can tell me which one are you prefer? What's the highlights?

1-1-2-3-4-4 SA, very comfortable.

I prefer the SA texture to the DSA texture but DSA was great for heavy gaming. Both were fine for typing, though it did take a bit to get adjusted to the extra height on SA caps. Right now, I'm locked in with GMK and enjoying Skeletor but I'll have Dasher and Dancer SA sets arriving later this year.

I have an ergodox with SA and another with DSA. I've found that I prefer the DSA. The top row (row 1 at -13*) angle in SA makes it harder to type vs. the flat angle of the DSA keys. I was surprised at the clumsy feel of the SA on ergodox and I've been using both profiles for several months now. I find myself making more typing mistakes on the SA vs. the DSA keys. SA just feels clumsy on the ergodox.

Personal opinions just FYI:
DSA: low height, thinner. It's easier to feel the MX switches click using DSA, e.g. it feels nice with MX blue switches. SA: high height, thicker . Feel like a buffer/cushion above the switches. Probably you need a wrist pad to use it. It feels comfortable with MX clear switches.
I like both of them with different switches. They provide characterized typing experience.
hhkbp2Thanks~

my only issue with SA is that it makes it harder to be a non QWERTY user. Having said that I do have an SA set on order so I'll have to let everyone know how it feels.

The shortest explanation is that DSA is a flat, uniform height pattern across all the keys while SA profile is sculpted with different heights for the rows. If you look at the pic I attached, DSA is the first profile listed, while SA is the fifth. There are exceptions to this, such as that 1976 kit in your first picture which looks like it's all Row 3 SA. This means that all the keycaps are the same height rather than being sculpted, but they're still taller than a DSA set.
The other thing that makes DSA and SA different from other keycap types like OEM or Cherry Profile is that most other profiles are cylindrical, meaning the indentation on the keycap is, well, cylindrical. It's higher on the sides and lower in the center and on the top and bottom. DSA and SA are spherical though, so they're highest at all the corners and have a spherical indentation that's lowest in the center of the key.
Some people prefer the sculpt and the height of SA caps (I know I do), while others like DSA due to the lower keys and uniform profile (I don't, mainly because it feels like I'm typing on my laptop). It's really all personal preference though. Other than that SP SA sets are mostly high quality, double-shot, thick ABS which feels fantastic to type on. Recently they've made a couple sets (Ice Cap and Industrial) available on PMK that are dye-sub PBT in a uniform, row 3 SA profile. I haven't used those though so I can't comment on their feel or quality.
Hope this helps.

It honestly doesn't matter to me I more care about what the caps look like.
